DAMMIT! This is what I was looking for to go into my Dell case!

Anybody want to buy a (very slightly) used Optorite dual-format 4X burner?

can't have a "slot load" burner.. light would get in or out and passing the disk in before a burn could mess it up.. error correction can "fix" it off reads but not on burns..

Unless I just missed the new tech and they solved those issues, odds are we not see a slot load burner anytime soon.. It just looks like one in the pic due to being black.. still not a bad deal but just look into the specs more to make sure it's a slot load if that is reason anyone wants to buy it..

Keep in mind that one can also just hit http://avlogic.com and pick up burners cheap.. (in case ya miss the deal for this TDK)

PIONEER DVR-106D (better burner then the TDK)
http://avlogic.com/product.cgi?code=18030077
$123 as I type this with free shipping.. ya pay tax but that still makes it only $132.50 (and no need for a rebate).. They are located really close, odds are ya would have it less then 3 days.. At least that was the case for Hoss and I and others who have bought burners there..

yeah, yeah it a white box but not like you need another IDE cable and for software, nero burns DVD's and everyone should already be running nero now anyways for CD burning.

Hurry up you whores!!! Everyone get DVD burns and start collection!! heh So I can leech later....

OK Deadlamb, I know there have been threads in teh tech forum about this, but why is the pioneer drive better than tdk? I'm really close to buying one, but I just can't find any good info about which drives are better, so I've been going by price. Is there really a difference? (Other than write speed)

Just IMO more then the TDK being "bad". Odds are in the end it will not be that big of a deal sep that pioneer has been making dvd burner for a long time. They have a ton of support outside of the company.. to the point that others even tear apart and rewrite firmware updates to add media codes etc. (not that I would use one but ya never know)

DVD writers and be picky bitches when it comes to media also.. They check and watch the media codes more and firmware updates can be a bigger issue then on some other products. More people on the big DVD-r help areas tend to be running pioneer 04, 05, or 06 versions so problem are found quicker if there are any..

again, I don't think it really an issue as of the TDk being junk, heck looks like a nice burner to me.. Many of the so called issues most have are if a burner handle cheap media and if your not looking to burn that stuff odds are one will have zero problem with just about any brand..

Check http://www.dvdrhelp.com/

in the end I think it's like saying a 68 Camaro is better then a 68 Firebird being more own Camaros. So parts and info are ezr to find for the Camaro. On some level that has nothing do with the level of the cars themself.

With media down to the same cost per a gig as CD-r and burners well under $150 now, there is NO good reason not to buy a DVD burner!! (unless you are broke). Ya get fatty data amount on one disk and of course I've heard you can back up DVD films too..

Silly:
I have the A04 ( 2x) Have had it for exactly one year. I have burned approx. 500 discs and I must say this thing is a SOLID performer. Like lamb said, it's pretty much the "standard" when companies create media and firmware. Everyone references the PIONEER.

And that link that he gave was a dam good price. I may actually be putting my 2x on eBay and getting that 4x

yeah the slot load stuff is great for PC, my normal cpu DVD drive in a slot load pioneer.. love it.. So easy to throw disks into it.. Even better at LAN's being many times we are swaping disks all the time or the cpu is up high and off the side.. pain to get a disk up and over the tray..

I'm sure the reason more drives are not slot load is just cost.. I mean they could even have a little door the dropped down to block light when a disk is in the drive....

eh maybe some day....

hehe as for the x4 burner.. I keep wondering how long ya were going to be able hold out Area before getting another one. :) I know that x1 a04 burner has been good to ya but the x4 are getting so cheap.. Heck sell the a04 on the message board for cheap and the x4 is even cheaper!

My burner is a 2x. But your right, the prices for the 4x media are at about a $1.00 now were as about 6 months ago it was like $2.00

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. I just need a 10x, with media at $1.00 and I'll be happy. :-)

Silly: I'm actually gonna keep it and put it in my main box for when I burn homemade movies. And the new one will go in my "back-up" machine

I've actually noticed a few 8x burners that will burn at 8x on 4x media. Right now they are out for the +r format, but I'm sure that 8x -r drives will be out soon. You might want to wait a bit.

You got any info on that? Would love to read up on it. Thanks
