View Full Version : How hard would this be? (modding voltage chip)

Now adding the dip switches is kinda overkill, supposedly all I have to do is connect Vid4 and Vid3 and it will be locked at 1.65. How hard/practical do you think it would be to do that?

I could do it in about 1 minute.

It's more of a "Do you have the right tools?" kind of deal. Soldering the pins together is rather easy, but if you don't have a way to see what you're doing or a way not to blow torch the board, then sure. Rad Shack should be able to get you those switches if you wanted to go that route.

Why are you wanting to raise Vcore anyway?

I could push it that much farther overclocking. I've been following the 2cpu boards for a while and no one has really gotten that great of an overclock without bumping up the voltage somehow. Plus, the chip having a tendency to output voltage on the lower end of the tolerance range doesn't help much either. I try to stay clear from mods like these but it's hard to hear people talking about it for months+ without thinking about it. :)

I can do it for you if you want. Something like ship me the board on the Wed. before FLG, I'll get it no later than Friday, mod it and bring it to the lan.

Thanks for the offer, just don't feel quite like tearing my system apart right now; maybe eventually. I was just thinking maybe I could get by with wrapping a wire around those pins or something simplier (ghetto) ;)

Wraping a wire around the pins runs the risk of shorting two pins you don't want to. No matter what, if you want to mod the Vcore you have to tear your system down, so you might as well do it right. (The switch may seem like overkill, but it'll save you time in the long run.) Personally, I think 180x16 is a pretty damn good overclock, but you must have some higher standards. Maybee I'll run my board up to Hoss just to :poke: you a little more. :D

No, it's a great overclock. Nothing wrong with trying to push it farther though.
