I hate video cards, this I've decided
the fact that the same thing can be made 70 different ways by 70 different companies and cost different amounts by seemingly offering the same thing is really fucking annoying
I'm going through and trying to compare versions of the ati 9600 card to see which I want to get.. and they are all exactly the same, except the brand name and the price
any suggestions from experience here?

Honestly, when you run across what you believe is a good deal...buy it! Don't look back and don't worry about a better deal coming. There is ALWAYS a better deal, that's life! As long as you feel you are getting good performance then it's good enough.

What he said.
I'm lucky enough to be able to "borrow" things like 9800 Pros from work, so over the years, I've pretty much had every card. 9500 Pro is going to be a better card than a 9600. I'd look for one of those, but if you do get a 9600 for cheap, then by all means. Great card for the price. 9500 Pro has been my all time favorite card just cause of the stability. My current system is about the best rock I've ever had. Thing runs at like 135F normal and 150F gamin' too. Don't care about the heat since it doesn't affect anything.
Haven't dealt with ASSvidia recently so I can't comment on the numbers Vs. performance for their fucked up line of cards.

well like this
a 9600 ati made card with 128 ram for 159
and a 9600 direct3d made ati card 128 for 159
and a 9600 connect3d made ati pro card 128 for 200
and a 9600 FIC made ati pro card with 128 for 159
I'm worried about payin 159 for a card and having it be crap
or paying 200 and having the 159 being exactly the same
get the first one. ATI made cards are probably going to be better quality. APAC vendors like FIC and Shapphire use the same design but put shittier parts on the cards to save money. ATI manufactures the cards to their own spec, so you're going to get the right shit from them. At least I'd hope that to be the case.
