For some reason when I plug into the router since coming back from the Valhalla LAN I cant get online. If I unplug (which ive been doing) and plug direct into the modem.. I connect just fine. Someone mentioned something to the affect that my system might think its on a private network (whatever that means). I didn't change any settings when I got back from the LAN. Just got home and plugged into the router as usual.
The router does work. Three different systems have been plugged into it since the LAN.
Any suggestions as to what it might be and what I need to check to get it to work?

Reformat and reinstall?
(just kidding)
Make sure you flush your DNS and release / renew your IP address (actually, also make sure you're set to DHCP for everything).

go into command prompt ipconfig /flush :D

What's the command to renew the IP? /renew IP <-- that? I tried to renew it.. I saw MyKul do it on OnParoles box.. but I don’t remember what he typed.
How do I flush the DNS?
No comment gremlin :P

Do it while you are plugged in. Specifically, the /renew relies on it.
Better yet, run ipconfig /all and paste it here.

I am assuming you didn't assign a static IP @ the LAN. You can find this out by right clicking MY NETWORK PLACES and going to PROPERTIES. Then right click your network connection that is active, and choose PROPERTIES. Then click on INTERNET TCP/IP and click the properties button. There are only 2 choices - OBTAIN AUTOMATICALLY or USE THE FOLLOWING IP ADDRESS. You will want the option to be OBTAIN AUTOMATICALLY.

I was plugged in when I did it.

Looks like you are gettin an IP from your cable company, not from your router.
Do you have more than 1 PC @ home? If so, login to a diff PC and give us your IPCONFIG /ALL from that one -

The IPCONFIG that you posted - is that the IP you get when you are live on the wire, or plugged into the router?

Have you tried it while plugged into the router?
If not, try that.

This is with it plugged into the router and the router plugged into the Cable modem.

Yeah Pun|< - Plug into the router, then do an IPCONFIG /RELEASE and an IPCONFIG /RENEW and finally, an IPCONFIG /ALL. copy / paste those results here. Won't need to block out any of them cuz the IP you get will be internal.

Your router itself should be "grabbing" the IP addy assigned to you by Comcast (or whatever) -- 24.7.xxx.xxx
Then, it should be assigning IP addys to all machines on the internal network, along the lines of 192.168.0.2
Most likely, on the internal network, the router itself ("GATEWAY") is 192.168.0.1
Thus, when you do ipconfig /all -- your IP should start with 192.168.0.x and your "default gateway" should be your router's internal IP (192.168.0.1). It should probably also be your DHCP server.
Is it possible that you do not have DHCP enabled on your router?

Unless I'm smoking quack, then you're router is supposed to supply DHCP, correct? I'm looking at your two IPCONFIG /ALL posts and they are more or less identical, and they shouldn't be if you plugged the machine into two different devices. You should get a different set of DHCP info from each device, and your router plugged into the modem should receive the same IP info you already listed. Can you check the current config on the router and see if it does while it's plugged into the modem?
Otherwise, do this: Turn-off/disable/remove any firewall software
Check your cable, replace with another, plug the machine into the modem and try release/renew again. Do you get a valid IP? Can you ping anything?
Plug the router into the modem, make sure it pickes up an IP. Rebooting both devices should ensure this happens properly (modem first, then power up router). Check the router to see if it picked up the DHCP IP info
Then plug your system into the router. Reboot the system for good measure, then check your IP. If it doesn't work, you should either get an error, all 0's, or a different set of DHCP IP info - it should NOT be identical to your modem DHCP IP info unless the info is just passing through the router (unless I'm smoking big-time quack, or I am just ignorant of how your broadband company and the router works).
If none of this works, try repairing the IP stack - XP has this option, but I forget how to do it since it's been ages (right-click on the system-tray icon and select...?).
Disable the onboard nic, and plug a PCI nic into the system. Your nic could be hosed.Hmmm. My head hurts now. ;)

I'll try all that stuff first thing tomorrow. Gotta work tonight.. time for sleep.
Thanks to everyone! I shall try more tomorrow.

If his router weren't supplying dhcp, then he shouldn't be getting dhcp from the modem either - only the router would get that.
