Here's my dilemma -
I negotiated a budget change proposal for an acquisition of a home theater system. $1500 has been allowed for said upgrade. I know, it's not enough for most audiophiles, but hey, it should be an upgrade from my last Sony HT in a box.
I know that if all else fails, I can fall back on getting an OK/entry level receiver and a Bose Acoustimass 10 III, but I'm hoping to get some advice from the most technical minds on the intarweb.
I found this (http://www.aperionaudio.com/system-builder/system-builder-preconfig.aspx) and thought about option B. Any opinions?

I am not a big fan of Bose myself but than again what ever sounds good to you works.
I defer all my AV research to this site. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/ They have some dedicated folks here, I use to spend way too much time on this site.

this is great advise, IMHO, I feel Bose sucks. I think it sounds tinny.
Since you have a small budget, I did see a 1000watt, 7.1 onkyo for like 600.00 in BB or CC.
If you are wanting more than that AVS is a GREAT place. Probably the BEST on the internet

As for the speakers, they look pretty nice. At least the components they use sound like quality drivers. It's hard to judge how they'll sound, though. The crossover is a very important piece, and this doesn't fill me with confidence:
The patent pending HD-X 3 circuit in the 422 speaker series creates a remarkably flat frequency response. HD-X 3 crossover technology levels the impedance load across the entire frequency range eliminating the detrimental effects of resistance introduced by long runs of speaker wire and cases where speakers are wired in series with one another
I would, however, put money on them sounding better than any Bose system.
I do have to ask, though, if you drop close to $1250 on speakers what are you going to do about a receiver? Also, what do you have now for speakers? IMO, the surround speakers don't need to be anything special, and what you've got now--even if they're just a set from an all-in-a-box system--would be fine, and you'd be better off just getting the front/center and a sub, and put the extra cash twords an amp...
One last thing; If you're feeling adventerous, and are the least bit handy, you can try something from these guys: http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&DID=7&WebPage_ID=29 They seem to have nice stuff, and you can get kits that involve nothing more than screwing down a speaker and connecting two wires...

Silly:
I've been eyeing a Sony 7.1 for about $350.00 to $500.00 (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-qeQBNKaEZNf/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=10420&I=158STD998B) This is a pretty slick box, also upconverts5.1 to 6.1 or 7.1
I am NOT an expert in this stuff, I have a very basic knowledge of it. But, unless you have a HUGE room and require INTENSE sound, this box or any below it should be fine.

Bose isn't the company they used to be, and their quality isn't up to par for the money. (monster cable of speakers)

Don't most of them do that? As far as I know the only native 7.1 audio is computer games, seems like it would be neccesary for DVDs.

AVS has a giant buttload of information, to the point where it's too much. Trying to figure out what I want is starting to be a headache, so I think I'll start going to Paradyme home audio, BB, CC and GG.
Ugh.
