View Full Version : News for all you peeps that are of draft age
From one of my fav sites, www.dailyrotten.com
"The community draft boards that became notorious for sending reluctant young men off to Vietnam have languished sinced the early 1970s, their membership ebbing and their purpose all but lost when the draft was ended. But a few weeks ago, on an obscure federal Web site devoted to the war on terrorism, theBush administration quietly began a public campaign to bring the draft boards back to life... military experts and even some influential members of Congress are suggesting that if Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's prediction of a 'long, hard slog' in Iraq and Afghanistan proves accurate, the U.S. may have no choice but to consider a draft to fully staff the nation's military in a time of global instability."

something like that, i just like shooting things.. guess all those games realy do cause kids to bad things... i wonder if they will give me a sniper rifle so i can run off in to the hills and pick people off camping style!!!!
Shooting at 500 meters with an M-16 in the Marine Corps was pretty fun.
Read this book: 93 Confirmed Kills by this Marine in 'Nam
If you're interested, I'll see if I still have my copy of the book

Your not actually taking that site as a credible news source are you? Maybe i'm just missing the sarcasm, but I don't think so. There will never be a draft, not that I don't thik that there should be.
Yah, that site links to salon then to http://www.defendamerica.mil/articles/sss092203.html

yeah I don't think it will ever be brought back, not after the mess that was drafting people for nam and the feeling that it as pretty unfair as far as who was or was not able to get out of it..
Throw in that we are sending troops to areas that many feel we should not be at in the first place. You have set up for politic suicide as far as backing a push for a draft return..
If they drafted for home based stuff it might go over "ok" but draft to run off and be world police man is not going to gain much support.
I agree. The whole Iraq thing is fucked up. Congress is going to donate 87 billion of OUR tax dollars to help Iraq and Afghanistan out, that is the stupidest thing I have heard of in a while. This is in addition to another 50 billion when we invaded a few months back.
Anyway, another thought is since American troops are in Iraq it is making it much easier for the Islamic fanatics that wanna kill Americans. They don't have to come to the USA anymore, just cross the border into Iraq from The Kingdom of Saud, Syria or wherever.
Really some fucked up shit.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see the draft back. But the sons of the rich and powerful will still find ways out of it, just like in nam

Oh christ....At least I didn't start this one this time. Oh well, let's do it.
First off...The ~100 billion or so that we want to spend on rebuilding is one hell of a deal considering the value of some stability and another friendly government in that area (I'm talking about Iraq). With us removing our airbases from Saudi we need another place in the area to put them, Iraq being a perfect stratigic location. Before you say why do we need bases in that area, you might want to study history a bit. They will go a long way to increase stability. Not a bad deal for 100 billion, espescially considering how little of our budget that is.
As far as Islamic fudamentalists being able to kill us easier now, that works the other way too. We are in a war, and unlike some Wag the dog campaigns this war will actually involve some risks. Look at it this way... The terrorists that are attacking us are coming from where?? Syria, Iran, etc... Countries that we know harbor terrorists, countries that we know that we need to go into, countries that we would have a hard time gaining support to go into. If we keep the battlefield in Iraq for a while, it will allow us to gain intelligence on terrorists in those countries...allowing operations in the future. Shounds like a good Idea to me.
Nice quote there in your sig BTW.....most overused quote ever.

Interesting European Union government poll (http://europa.eu.int/comm/public_opinion/flash/fl151_iraq_full_report.pdf) was released a few days ago.
[edit: Damn "5 1" smilie: here is the main link: http://europa.eu.int/comm/public_opinion/archives/flash_arch.htm and click on the top "Full Report"]
The question (paraphrasing):
Which country poses the biggest threat to peace in this world.
1st place: Israel (59%)
2nd place: the United States (53%)
Other intersting results:
US is least trusted (18%) to manage the rebuilding of Iraq. 72% of Brits want the UN to manage it.
68% say military intervention was not justified
****
Now, I know that some of you are gonna say "well, they're all weenies, we have a right to defend ourselves."
Funny, when everybody else says you're wrong... maybe they are right and you are wrong! Most crazy people do not think they are crazy - they think everyone is wrong who thinks they are...

I'm right and everyone else is wrong. Why? Cause I rock.:bang:
Therefore, if I rock, then no one else rocks, which means that I am right and everyone else is wrong.

Uh oh, Europe doesn't like us! We better listen to them so we can fit in! I sooooo want to be in the club you know.
When speaking of Europe, one must consider that many people in that and other parts of the world look to the U.N. as the great equilizer and ultimate authority. When they see how little regard we have for such an organization (and rightfully so I might add), it is easy to understand why they fear and hate us so. Also, the freely used term "arrogant Americans" is only tolerated by many because it merely reaffirms that we are in fact better than them, and by using the phrase they admit their jealousy of the fact. Hey, I wouldn't like to be the guy who sucks either. Maybe they should actually work on not sucking instead of bitching about how much better we are than them.
Bait bait bait.....

Thanks for the response.
In my opinion, the ~100 bil or so is way too much money. It is my tax dollars and I already pay too much there (that is another thread of course). The USA already has enough of a deficit and even worse, too much of a national debt. We should address issues within our borders first.
I hope we can gain good intel on the area around Iraq, since our intel track record is not all that great so far.
And, I seriously doubt that the current quote I am using in my sig is the most overused quote ever. I do like it though and I usually change 'em when I see something else I like.
Peace out

I can guarantee you the draft will never be used unless there was a situation where people would almost want to send themselves into war (Think nuclear terrorism, etc).
We’re scaling back bases in places like Germany and that should give us a lot more slack when it comes to re-distributing our troops to other places.
Pretty sad when people have to lie and scare people with false information to push their agenda. OMG OMG WAR IS BAD, OPPOSE IT OR YOU WILL BE DRAFTED OMG!@#
Whether or not you agree with the “war” you have to agree the scare tactics are pretty lame.

Means that you're too stupid to get a gun... because the Air Force (2 words!) and the Army are different. Snipers == Army. Pilots == Air Force.
(note, I'm sure there are some AF special forces equivalent that undoubtedly do play with sniper rifles... but that would be very very very rare).

Important quote from article:
They’re in a unique unit, the only one in the Air Force.
Yeah, I thought I'd once heard of some... but as I said, they are very rare. My point is, if he really wants to play with sniper rifles, the Air Force is not the best place.
Both the Air Force snipers were trained at the Army Sniper School (http://usmilitary.about.com/library/milinfo/blarmysniperschool.htm). According to the article you linked... they are the only 2 left (were 6 snipers) - and spend most of their time being policemen. So, odds are not favorable to hoping to be an Air Force sniper; the Army really is the best bet for that line of work.

uh...no. all i will say is this:
marines go into battle first. they are canon fodder. army are the weapons experts. air force is, well... they don't really do the pilot thing anymore, that's pretty much all army. what do they do? anyway, and navy is boats.
if you want to be a sniper, go into the army. :sniper: of course, that is my understanding from the various people i know and (mainly) a really cool green beret i know.

the chances of becoming a sniper are very low almsot 80 percent drop out and out of a class of fifty maybe 3 or 4 will pass so iw ould not recommend that

Hey Psycho just to let you know... The Airforce only trains College graduates to fly... what that means is that you will either A) Be a cop (thus every1 else will h8 you) B) Be a mechanic (you'll end up in some freaky shop accident.. happens all the time) C) You'll be a janitor or a cook (Hell I'd rather work in the civ sector then you'll make more money and not have to worry about someone droping a bomb on your base) D) you might be the guy who operates the radios and radars... but then again they have missles that specifaclly go after those kind of installations... You may want to go into another branch... and By The Fucking way... You aren't going to be a roookie.... The Correct title is RECRUIT... Drop and give me 20 RECRUIT... Shine your boots RECRUIT... oh wait its the AF so it will be give me a Blow Job RECRUIT!!!! seriously did you know the air force has the highest % of fags???
If you want to shoot someone seriously Join the Army or the Marines... Even the Navy if you have enough inteeligence to be able to get a ratting that would qualify you for the SEALS then again you'd have to be able to meet the physical requirements as well... but they do give every RECRUIT (not rookie) the chance to join special Forces regardless of which branch... you Drill Instructor s will give ya a little speech blah blah blah..... I hope you don't die kid... It much easier to get student loans than to risk your life to goto college...

Aitforce is the butt of almost every other armed services jokes... second only to taxi... erm, navy
Jarheads are the last to show, first to go.. well except that one big battle they were first for.. what was that again.. wwI beach landing highest casualty rating of the war.. ring a bell? but that's their job.. make the enemy wonder uhm, why in the hell are they attacking like this while the "then black berets" (now rangers) who had chuted in behind em clean up the confused rabble so they could get the reporters in there
now.. a marine sniper is a different story all together, as long as they arn't being led by a marine (generally they have the better of the branches leading them, and I'm not talking army) you want to see 9 people die and the other 30 wonder why.. that's a marine sniper.. if you want to be captured army sniper alla the way (again there's a but here, unless your attached to an SF group... then well you're not really army anymore anyway)
There are definitely some good things about joinng the military.
I joined at 17, it was an easy (?) way to get out of the house :)
Of course, an E-1 starts out at $1064.70 a month. That kinda sucks, but your on base housing, food and medical are included. And ya get 30 days vacation a year.
From my experience (generally speaking, it may vary according to your job, where you are stationed, etc), you work the most hours in the Marine Corps and the Navy (while on ship). The Air Force is most like a 9 to 5 job. They also generally have the best food and housing.
One of the downsides, is you may die. Or get sent to a shithole like Iraq for 9 months +.
Personally, I'd do it again. Hell, I should've stayed in. Or not.
