I generally let it take care of it for me
it usually goes with 44% if I remember right depending on the movie of course
but you could lower it if you get rid of some of the options

100% if and when I can get it. I usually dump all the extras (if I need the room). It'd be nice to have the extras.. but I want quality first. I dont like going below 90% if I can help it. Allot of the stuff I do is in episodes, so I can cut the DVD into multiple disks.
DLamb and others do more "movies" than I do, they'll give better info im thinking.

Jump to the Beta 3.0 version 5.. It's WAY better then version 2.. Also he flipped the numbers Vs version 2.. In version 2 it's how much the you crushed the film. In version 3 it's the % of the film size.. Errrrr get it? So a 75% film is ver 2 is crushed 75% in Ver 3 a 75% would mean a 25% crush..
Plus Ver 3 has an auto setting so the days of needing to pick a level is no longer there. You can also go 1% at a time on a slider in version 3.. there is NO reason to be running version 2 anymore.
as for movies, if the film is HUGE I will reauthor mode and just crush it as much as I have too.. Have done down to 60% for a film like Platoon and it held up "ok".. at least for a cheap back up version. Version 3 of shrink has a "auto" setting as I said, so it's really ez.. also you can deep analyze the film in ver 3.. Normal checked every 100th frame "deep" checks every frame, it takes a little longer of course. It's said to make the film compress cleaner..
Anyways.. if the menus and so on are around 150megs or so I just leave them in.. I mean that is not even 1% gain in most cases, not a big deal.. Extra are kept crushed as much as can if the film is still in the 90% range.. I also always want the commentary tracks so a lot of films are crushed around 85% (again, that is a version 3 number NOT the same as version 2)
It depends the most on what you have to back up as far as there run time. A higher bit rate 90-min film will crush better then a 2 hour 23 min film..
Ver 3 of DVD shrink also lets one reautor from muti disks to one disk, you can rip just one chapter out.. It soooo cool I still have a hard time thinking of it as freeware..
