Silent Storm (http://www.silentstorm-online.de/main.php?lang=en) being there is a version 1.1 Demo out for this game.. Full version hit in the UK on Oct 31 but I read it will not drop in the USA till Jan.. sigh...

Still, ya can check out the demo.. I'm hesitant to even post this being I think the turn based gaming crowd is not really here.. After all, you have to **gasp** think in the games. heh Ah but ya never know, one would not guess that bunnyslayer and I are huge fans of turn based games, so might be a few other fans here.

Best turn based game I have seen since the days of JA2.. It really is that good.. No mutiplayer but that's just a trade off.. If your a fan of turn based combat you really need to try the demo out.

For those how have never played a turn based combat game, keep in mind, it is much slower. That IS the point, it's not ment to be the mindless rush rush rush of the RTS games where you don't know or even care what units you send where.. In the past many turn based games fell into a mix of rts and turnbased to try to please both camps and sort of failed....

Silent Storm is the return of full on true turn based combat game.. It's great!! (if ya like that sort of thinking game)

Im liking this game alot. Graphics are great but sort of a system/graphics whore. The ragdoll effect is pretty funny too, shoot a guy sniping in a tower and he cartwheels down to the ground

So far my group is all lvl 8... Sniper, Sniper (every shot is critcal now, shooting guns out of hands is fun), Medic/Sniper, Scout (shanking people from the dark > *), Grenadier (this fucker is not to be messed with, I load him up with almost all grenades), and a soldier decked with heavy machine guns

yeah I think this game will have a really long life over all being the eng is SOOOOOO good and I guess you can mod the hell out of it too with the map editor.. Granted, I tend to be more of the sort who just d/l's the mods and plays them but heck that makes for a more or less never ending game if others take the time to make stuff for it..

Australian Silent Storm Headquarters

pretty good message board action going already as far as many starting mods for the game and so on..

Interesting, looks good. This might be a better game than UFO Aftermath in terms of "strategy/tactics."

Oh man, just finished a crazy mission. Must have been about 15-20 guys. 4 had rocket launchers, but luckily my snipers got them before they could get in range. Check out the loots they dropped, so sad that I could not pick up even 1/10 of it all

As opposed to an RTS, where you not only have to think, but also have to do it at a fast pace in a constantly changing situation. :P

your kidding right? RTS is just a simple as building up enough units to swarm over the other team... yeah wow.. lots of thinking there.. Plus almost every game that comes out has ONE really cheap way to win really ez, one or three units that are over powered.. sooooooooooooooo few months into the game all you get is everyone doing that cheap tactic and building nothing but those units..

Not saying RTS can't be fun, heck on almost every level they are MORE fun in muti-player then turn based but there is about 1/3 the thinking as far as tactics and so on. you build a swarm and let them go.. Same for the maps being the thinking is "swarm north or swarm left?" I've played them all, so it's not like I just hate RTS games.. They have their place in the gaming field...

After all, RTS' were made being turn based war games took too much thinking / planning for the average game player to have fun playing them..

On one level I'm just messin', as I have enjoyed the TB goodness before. On the other hand I need to represent the RTS, because it requires on-the-fly decisions and makes micromanagement a skill since everything is happening all at once. It is for that reason that most people don't play turn-based, they just want to resource up and pump out the same units over and over. However, they will always get stomped by someone who actually understands troop movement strategy and unit counters. A feigned skirmish on expansion X results in a sudden troop drop in expansions Y and Z.
