it has more to do with insecurities than anything else. out of the 4 chicks i've tried to get to know so far, only one is a semi-friend, and she's more like a penpal.

In this situation, you are a threat. You already have the attention of the guy that they're interested in. She would have to compete against you...and that's when the claws come out.

Personally, most of my friends are male. I have one close female friend but every now and then I have to tell her to step off...
