I normally have no problem with Cops. I have respect for them.
What I don't have respect for is the bastard who gave me a ticket while I was at school for not having a front license plate. He also wrote up my lack of registration, before the moron realized the big red sticker on the back of my car means I am in the process of getting it smogged and the DMV let's me drive it. So he scratched that part out.
However, the /dv, as he obviously wasn't aware, will not giove you a new front license plate until after you complete registration. So that sticker allows me to drive the car without a front license plate as well.
This stupid cop who was looking for any excuse to meet his quota is costing me $121 fucking dollars. I could go into court and plead not guilty and get a lower fee, but my work doesn't veiw the threat of a "failure to appear" as a valid reason to miss work. They won't appove the abscense. So if I miss work on Thursday to go to court, I get placed on "Formal warning." Meaning one more and I lose my job. That's not really a major concern, what really matters is it'll mean I lose my new job I'm being transferred to, doing email responses instead of taking calls. So either I pay $121 I don't have, get a bench warrant issued for a failure to appear, or lose my new position which is guarunteed to heavily lower my stress/bitchiness.
All because of a fucking front license plate and a pathetic excuse for a cop who shoudl have been out pulling over drunk drivers instead of harrassing college students. This combined with the other experience of David's suspended license by a bullshit cop who pulled ME over, not him, seriously lowers my respect for the Police Force.
Yeah that's my complaint for the day.

Incorrect, you should have had a front license plate from the beginning.
If you bought your car without a front license plate then it's not your fault and perfectly legal. The cop doesn't know or care if you bought your car without a front plate. He's just doing his job and you have to go off and be mad at him for it.
Kind of like when customers get mad at you when you’re just doing your job right.

So an Officer doing his job is a pathetic excuse for a cop now. Maybe his job entails more than pulling over drunk drivers and stopping murderers.
As for David getting a ticket when you got pulled over, he didn't have to stop also. Sorry but if I was a cop and I saw someone pull over along with the individual I'm after, I'd check it out too. They spend everyday in worry over getting shot during every traffic stop. He doesn't know that David won't pull out a gun and shoot him for pulling you over. So he checked it out and found something illegal. What's wrong with that?

So if one bought a car with no working head lights, it's legal and "not my fault"? How about no turn signals? :) ya get the idea..
It sucks to get sold something and it's sort of busted or not 100% street legal, it sucks WAY more to get caught.. So in other words, in a legal way, the car should have been parked till the front plate got there. Real life, no one does that..
I'm SHOCKED a girl got a ticket!?!?! See you should have cried damn it!! They tend let woman go if they :cb:.. hehe
ah not sure if this will make you feel better but I have driven for 15 years now, owned 5 different cars.. Everything from a mini truck (hangs head in shame) to a monster 4x4 and even a red sports car... Been pulled over a bunch of times, only gotten one ticket and that was a BS one.. Ah but for front plates, NEVER HAVE HAD ONE on any of my cars, ever and you know how many times I have gotten a ticket for that?? Yep zero..
Oh wait, did I see make ya feel better.. Sorry, ment to say make ya feel worse.. :poke: (oh so evil am I)

Except that it is legal to only have one license plate on a car if DMV only issued one. Given the fact that the car was sold from a dealership with only one license plate then DMV probably only issued one to the car.
I would think that in order for a dealership to sell a car, that car would have to be within all limits of the law and be able to drive on the road legally.

So, request the court give you a different court date. I believe you can request a delay of at least your first court appearance. In your case, you definitely have a valid reason to request a delay -- your work will not give you the time off, and thus you cannot make the court date.
On the other hand, I was under the impression that any business in the US must grant "reasonable" time off for an employee to attend court. They do not necessarily have to give you paid time off... but they are forbidden by law from penalizing you for being required to attend a court date. However, some loser manager who accidentally got promoted to being your boss probably does not know the law. That said, companies are often sued for this type of thing.
However, there are a few issues with this whole process:
1) People usually do not fully know or understand their rights
2) Companies/businesses frequently do not either.
Expanding on #2 - often the company does... but the dickhead idiot managers of individuals and such do not. If you were to contact your company's Human Resources or Legal departments, I'm sure you'd find that you are 100% eligible to take at the very least unpaid time off to attend court.
You have a choice here: Do a small amount of research -- if a company is required to give you the time off, take it. Do not inform your manager of the law. Then, if they put a warning in your file, you can file a complaint against whomever initiated that warning (or sue - your choice).
****
So, the ball is firmly back in your court. Is it worth $121 to you to:
(a) contact the proper people in your company to get the time off
(b) contact the court to request a delay
(c) find out your legal rights, take them, and then have fun retaliating against your dumb manager
*****
Last, but not least, you purchased a vehicle that was not legal.
You have every right, nay a duty, to pursue a legal remedy against whomever sold you the illegal car.

1. yes, the car had no front plate when i purchased it. my point was i have tried to get one, but my car wouldn't pass smog. a bad oxygen sensor. anyway, the dmv won't give you a front licence plate without being fully registered and thecop new i was in the proicess of doing just that. had they known the rules of the dmv i never would have gotten that ticket.
2. unlike the cop, i AM a competent and knowledgable employee. as i stated, he wrote the ticket out for no registration, which he had to look at the back of the car to get the licence plate #, and the crossed that part out because he THEN saw my big red square from the DMV. had he been doing a thorough job, he would have seen that first before writing a ticket. the FIRST thing the ticket was for was no registration. hmm... out to meet his quota ya think?
3. this is JUST like the time in roseville when BOTH my car (david was driving) AND dad's (i was drving) had those stickers, yet the cop pulled me over due to no registration. then he barely spoke 2 words for me and walked strait to senior punk David to talk to him. When I was the one he pulled over. That was the SAME idiot who, last year, wrote me a ticket for driving a "saturn" when my car clearly says PONTIAC. even YOU agreed that ticket should have been null and void. except the courts always side with the cops. I could have gotten an attorney for PERJURY since the bottom of the ticket says "UNDER PENALTY OF PERJURY THE ABOVE IS TRUE AND CORRECT."
3. my car was parked on the street next to SCC. i was not driving, he wrote the ticket for a parked car. so i had no chance to tell him the DMV won't give me a new plate yet.
4. David's cousin is a Sac county sheriff and a very cool guy, yet even he has admitted he and the cops he works with will pull over people that look like david for no reason, to see if he can catch them in something. however at least being related tto david has shown him, unlike his co-workers, that not all punks are the dredge of society we are made out to be. but this has to do with david's suspended licence, not my current problem.
5. i can't get through to the court house to pick a new day. i have waited on the phone for over an hour on 2 different days for a clerk and it ends up disconnecting me at 4:30. i tried to make it there today but i can't get there after work before they close. if i were to pick a different day to go in, it'd have to be after january first when i get more pto. my work makes you sign agreements for the use of PTO which specifically state any absenses when you don't have available pto are counted as occurances, the only exception being FMLA since it is state regulated. this is considered "my own fault" and regardless of the fact that i have to go into court, i am to blaim and they won't help me out.
i am not at all deferring responsibility for not getting a new front licence plate as soon as i bought the car. i should have reported the dealership to the dmv then. but i was told that it wasn't illegal for them to do that. what i am saying is i am tired of dealing with ill-trained cops who are so quick to meet their quota that they don't fully asess the situation before pulling you over or writting a ticket. i should have NEVER been pulled over last year when they threatened to impound my car. even though I, the registered owner, was right there.
also, another story. a few months ago david and i were driving along when he got pulled over. the cops excuse? i looked like a little girl who had been kidnapped. um.. i checked the news and there was no reports of kidnapping that day. and the cop was behind us the whole time and i have a slanted back window specifically designed so people have a hard time seeing in from behind you. the story was complete bs. he saw a couple of punks with kaos spikes and a mohawk and thought he could get a bust on a stolen vehicle.
i don't give a shit if he is "protecting the streets." you try getting treated like this from some cops and see how much fun it is. it's illegal to do this to people that are of a minority race yet they love doing it to "rebels."
oh and i did cry once, to the same bastard that wrote "saturn" as the make of my car. he told me i had cool shoes and asked if i felt better. he was hot tho, damnit.

yeah.. i think i'm gonna have to defer my court date. i'll see what i can do. thanks for the tips guys. i have never claimed it wasn't my fault because in truth it was. i was more pissed that the cop wrote the ticket for lack of registration before fully asessing the car. this is the 2nd time this has happened, all because a cop, who is trained to notice details, missed a big fat red one.

oh.. most IRONIC thing about this? i was intending to go the very next day to get it smogged. it was my friday when i have no school. i went, it passed, and i had a front plate less than 24 hours after the ticket was issued.
damn sad. ok i'm done now.

1. Regardless of whether you're trying to get a new one or not, you still didn't have one.
2. So you've never made a typing error in all the time you've worked?
3. So how can you get mad at him for writing you a ticket?
4. Yes police do pull people over based on how they look and I agree with it completely. If you're dressed like a crack whore you're probably a crack whore with rock on you. If you're dressed like a gun totting gang member, chances are you're a gun totting gang member. Don't like it? Then don't dress in a way that stands out miss spikey hair.:P
Is it just me or are you getting pulled over by the same cop non stop?
Finally....Boo Hoo...You got a ticket. Don't like it? You go be a cop and have to deal with it.
Yes they have quotas they have to fill, just like you have to do your job everyday they have to do theirs. You think people breaking the law are just going to come out and say "Hey! My name is Brian Mitchell and I was speeding yesterday around 3pm on I80. Can I have my ticket now?"

Did the car pass smog when you bought it, or were you provided with a smog certificate (as per CA law)???
Points to think about when fighting the ticket.

dan: i notice you had no reply to my remarks on incompetency. again i said it was MY fault i didn't get the licence plate fixed.
i've had the car for 2 years and it's never had a front licence plate. i've been pulled over 6 times (only got 4 tickets.. the others were bs excuses) and no one said anything. owell.
dan- i don't dress like a crackwhore. and what excuse are you gonna say to the african american getting pulled over because he could possibly be a gang member or the hispanic (just like your SISTER) getting pulled over for possibly looking like an illegal immigrant? just because i don't look like you doesn't make it right. it is fucking hair, it's protein and dead skin cells! who cares if david puts gel to mohawk it or donnie dorritos spikes his 4 inches high?!

blah.. here is the kicker to that idea... when a person has nothing to point to, lets say he is 100% Joe Average Family Guy, then things and issues and treatment of him tend to not be noticed by him.. Ah but if you have say a 3rd arm then it's always "I got treated that way due to my 3rd arm, I just know it!"
Granted, sometimes that may be the case but a whole lot of the other times it's just not.. It's really just bad luck.. I have one friend who has such bad luck I swear it' some old curse or something.. Total button down number cruncher white blond etc sort of guy, as clean cut as they come.. He got pulled out of line flying from Sacramento to Seattle 3 times.. Now if he had ANYTHING to point to and go "you singled me out being I'm..............." he would have.. Same for a bank, he walks in and no one would talk to him. He walks out going "Man they have some poor worker training there." Other freinds of mine go to the same bank and then go "They did that being I'm........................! I know it!"
It's mostly luck..
Of course my fav is another friend in a huge toyota truck, gets pulled over, gets a DUI.. He claims: "That's BS they pulled me over just due to the show truck I was in!!" -----errrr yeah ok maybe, but then you were drunk..------ "Yeah but THAT is not the point" errrr ok.. heh

so with all your talk of smog this or that I was thinking about how I have been driving around my 74 blazer for a few years now on ***cough*** 2000 tags :) Well not all the time, it's mostly been parked but still, everyone now and then one needs that 2nd car..
anyways... I was thinking I need to get it smoged, more so now that I have talked some smack about how "I don't get caught". hehe.. So being I was the DMV site anyways run testing out combos of "zak stalker" for a custom plate.. I check for... smog info..
HELLO!! [cut and paste]
How old does a vehicle have to be to qualify for a smog exemption?
Vehicles with a year model 30 years old or older are exempt from the smog certification requirements.
Example: The calendar year is 2003- 29 = 1974 exempt year model
The current calendar year minus 29 equals the year model exempt from smog certification
OMFG!! Did I really do it? Did I really park a car for long enough to beat the system?!!? Can I just go down to DMV in the next week or so and go "GIVE ME MY TAGS!! DMV is my BITCH!!!!!"... Sniff.... if not for your rant like post I might never have noticed this.. Will my monster basher truck be back on the street, to bring terror to all the small cars I tail gate?? I think I'm going to cry tears of joy... :cb:
Did ya know I tried to run over a homeless man in it one time? Ruined a kids 4th of July by running over ALL his fireworks in the street, even when some where lit already? Threw a tided wave of water at someone SOOOOO big, due to a flood street, it not only went over their head but also the head of their kid who was pushing the wheelchair...
Now it migth be going to back on the street soon, all legal!?!!?!? I'm sooooo happy..

It's not the best thing in the world, and it's unfortunate that profiling happens, but welcome to life. It's not fair, it's cruel and it's harsh, deal with it.
If a black man is driving around minding his own business that's fine, but if he's got the windows tinted limo black, music bumping, rolling on dubs more expensive than the car in a shitty neighborhood, I'm sorry but it doesn't take a damn genius to think something is a little off.
It's not fair, but that's the way life has become now a days. This isn't the land of OZ with happy smiling people everywhere offering you lollipops.

the Launch is done with those tiny ones, like around half a Honda or so in size, on wheels.. Get them in front of the truck, take off and then jam the brakes... If you hit a ramp like curb with it you can launch them pretty high (well high for a loaded dumpster).. errr or of course it can roll under the truck and rip it all to hell..
Dumpster Locking is for those HUGE trailer size ones.. if you are willing, most of the time you can PUSH them from the far end. Ya know, being 90% of the time they open on one end to store stuff.. Errr and that end tend to be near a wall.. like DOOR..........>WALL. Sooooooooooooooo if you push it to make DOOR.WALL they can't get it open.. muhahah!! You can't push them too far but most of the time 6 feet is more then enough to lock them down.
I pass on this info for the next generation out there being I can't really do this stuff anymore.. Too old now and the joy seems to be gone from it for me to be honest. Been there, done that I guess..
Ya know, sort of like dumpster diving for stuff to throw was fun for a few of my friends.. Till they got pulled out of one at gun point by a SWAT like team once, chopper and all.. That was the end of that.. God I wish I was making this stuff up, I'm not.. In this case there was an armed robbery or something near by and being it was night, they (my friends) were seen by someone who thought it was the bad guys looking to hide or something.. So in the end it was no big deal but it put an end to them doing that..

I'll toss a little POV in here.. well perhaps a little story
Friend of mine and I are walking down the street, throwing song lyrics back and forth at eachother trying to write a new song, we see flashing lights and look up in time to see a sherriff skid to a halt in front of us.
Deputy dawg hops out of the car calls for backup and asks us how we're doing tonight... nice conversation starter there bob, he asks if he can search us, we of course ask why.. I mean, yes, I know, we could have weapons, grand, but his response.... We're just getting to know the people in our neighborhood... erm ok, so he searches us, runs us, and his backup shows up.. I ask him again *this is about a half hour later* so, what exactly did you decide to talk to us about.. because we've been sitting here a half hour.. and you've spent all of that in your car.. as soon as I speak, he reaches for his gun, and jumps.. takes a breath, and begins questioning us.. the conversation is as follows
So you guys from around here?
yup, around the block
just walkin home?
yup
from where
just walkin
you live around here?
yeah, around the block
and you're walking back from the store?
yup
yer from around here right?
uhm.. yes
I'll be right back
an hour later he hands us back our ids and we continue our walking.... we wrote a song pretty easily after that... heh
were either of us surprised by this? no it's just habit... but after a while you feel like that kid who gets beatup in school every day, and cause the "bully" is bigger than you there isn't shit you can do but escilate the situation with a weapon..
No, I'm no cop killer... and having moved downtown.. it really hasn't happened since
sure you can say that the cop in the above story has a legitimate reason for stopping my friend and I... and of course it would have nothing to do with the foot tall bright red crown I had my hair shaved into at the time
course if I had been wearing a dress, he would have gone right by us... that lifestyle choice is protected by law

I have one thing to say:
I was right. neenerneenerneener. :P
I took the ticket to david's cousin, the sheriff. he laughed at it, took it to his work (down the street from his work), where all the sheriffs there had to see it, and they all laughed their asses off at it to. The reason? Because like I said all along, the ticket isn't valid! You cannot give a ticket for registration or plates to an "application in progress." That's who the ticket was made out to. And the wording is wrong, it should say process. Plus, I didn't even look at it closely, but the cop mispelled half the words on the ticket. And he didn't take the time to look up my plate number in the records to put my name or address or even VIN number there. All he put was app in progress. This could have been a stolen plate for all he knows. All I would have to do is not go into court. And when I got a bail notice for failure to appear, say in court one of the plates on my car went misisng so the next day I reported it to the dmv like i was supposed to. because he put nothing on the ticket linking it to an actual vehicle, there's no way they can prove it was my car the ticket was placed on. The court would pull a copy of the ticket and see that.
So he signed off on it for me and is going to take it into court too. I told him he needs to re-train cops to look for freaking details. These guys are supposed to be "protecting" the public yet they can't even write out a proper ticket.

If you don't like how the job is done then you do it. If not then quit your bitching.
One thing I hate more than anything is someone who claims to have respect for Police then sits there and calls them morons who aren't doing thier jobs. If you're not going to do it then don't complain about how bad you think it is. God damn people like you annoy me.
"I have so much respect for Police Officers, but they're such idiots that can't even do thier job."

Actually I agree with you. I was just trying to push your buttons and show you why you shouldn't be angry at the cop for doing his job.
You're talking about 1 cop? Did you even read what you typed in your first post?
This combined with the other experience of David's suspended license by a bullshit cop who pulled ME over, not him, seriously lowers my respect for the Police Force.
I don't know what you're thinking, but that looks to me like someone who is judging a whole Police Force because she got a ticket.
Not to mention your last?
These guys are supposed to be "protecting" the public yet they can't even write out a proper ticket.
Last I checked "these guys" is different from "that guy". "These guys" would insinuate that you are talking about multiple people, in this case you are referring to Police Officers.
I have no problem with someone being angry over getting a ticket. I know cause I get angry when I get tickets too, but I don't get angry at the Cop. I'm angry at myself for getting caught. Example.
I'm in Rancho Cordova one night in front of a shit load of cars, about to kick the hell out of a Mustang in the quarter mile. A friend gets out of my car to flag us and an undercover cop pulls up and pulls only me over, not the Mustang, my friend runs into a field. I get my ticket for racing.
I'm angry, but I understand.
I go to court...
Judge: Guilty, Not Guilty or Traffic School?
Me: Oh I'm guilty.
Judge: Well you have a good record ( Bullshit!) go talk to the D.A.
Me: Ooook
I talk to the D.A. and he explains that because I never moved I was not racing. I was contributing to an illegal street drag.
Was I angry for getting a ticket? Yes
Was it unfair I got a ticket in my 4 door sedan, and the Mustang was let go? Probably
Did I accept reponsibility? Yes
Did I blame the cop and claim that all cops must be ignorant because of it? No
Did I lose respect for cops? No

okay i'm done explaining that the ticket was NOT my fault, it was the cop's mistake. the entire night shift for the sac county sheriff's agreed it wasn't worth the paper it was written on! it never should have been written, is a waste of the court's time and mine.
i've already given instances where a police officer was not doing their job right. after a while you get jaded. maybe you don't know what this feels like since you're at fault when you get a ticket. maybe you don't understand the feeling of harrassment. that's not my problem.
jesus i was just trying to let you know i was right and got out of my delimna, hence ending this thread.
