This is my parents... they refuse to get a new TV until it breaks. They can afford any TV they want... So I figure its time to open her up and cross a few wires...

I think you just need to convince them that they need a tv that's larger than a computer monitor. At that point, it shouldn't be too hard to convince them that they need to go with an HDTV for it to be future-proof. You don't want to have to buy a whole new tv in a couple years, do you?

run into this all the time with all ages of people.. they will swear up and down that "they don't watch that much tv" so no reason to spend or buy etc etc etc..

then when ever you go over there, they sure seem to be watching tv or have at least have it on.. I have a family memember who's parents took a console tv (yes, the WOOD floor old school sort), replaced the tube once, then when it broke again, they took the guts out and shoved a cheap tv INSIDE it.. errrrrrrr money issue? Hell no.. they.... "just don't watch that tv that much"..

yeah, funny how they don't but burn up tv's all the time..

meh..
