How do I get my fps up? With my old Ti card I was getting 90+ fps. Now with the new 9800 I am getting 50 max. I have the latest drivers installed. Any idea?

If youre running the 3.8s go to properties > 3D > Custom > Wait for Vertical Sync and move it to the left. Make sure you do it for both D3D and Open GL

* < 3.7s are a little bit the same. Instead of being in the 3D tab, it will have its own D3D/Open GL

yeah and on every driver instally one needs to go back and turn it off again.... of course I rem that NOW, but never when I install drivers.. sooo there I go to play some game.. "errr this seems slower, POS drivers!! Oh wait that's right I need to....................." heh

it might also be some sort of AA auto setting or something? Not sure..

You should probably leave vsync on and change your monitor refresh to its highest. Say if your monitor supports a refresh rate of 100, then any fps over 100 doesnt matter. 100 fps will look the same as 100 bajeelion cause your monitor cant properly show it

Vsync caps fps to whatever refresh rate is

yeah but not really.. not if you are used to no vsync... it just feels different as you play.. I know the tech of --can only see your refresh rate of frames-- is correct.. still, I know when I have installed the new drivers and it's back (but I don't know) on it still feels strange..

that about as blind of a test as you can get.. so it's not just me knowing it's on and then thinking I see something.... it really flows different..

I think it has to do with latest frame being closer to what you are doing with Vsync off... Sort of like knocking on a door that is about to open Vs pushing on the door.. Even if you hit the door as it opens it's not as fast as just pushing on it the whole time.

So for say UT, my system running at 1280x1024 is pushing 230+ frames at my monitor's door that can only show 60 (lcd of course)..

Vsync off does look different. You can see the frames tearing since the monitor can't show them all.
