One issue i have noticed is the loss of threads...it has happened on all installs of vb and importing the database from phpbb.

Take a look at the front flg forums page and look for the total threads for Jibba Jabba...it says 218 threads. But if you go through and count them all, there are only 86. I havent checked, but I assume that other forums have been affected as well.

Another issue is reseting the permissions. Modfather seems to be having a difficult time with it. Then again, he has a difficult time with everything. (almost feel sad for him having to ride the short bus)

I'd vote to reset it...

90% of the posts in here are just BS anyways same as most any other board.... Only boards I have ever seen that were not filled with junk and need to have messages saved are Tech help on.. In that case one might go back and look for some post about how do this or that..

anyone really good to look for past post here that are along the lines of "yeah Mukul sucks".. nah.. but that is IMO of course..

We are just a club anyways so whatever makes for the least work for the Admin etc is great I would think..

This is somewhat related...

I think Post Count should be done away with. Sometimes people spam up the boards jsut to get their count way up, which then effectively defeats the purpose of having a post count anyway - cause post count then means nothing.

The only thing I ever use it for is distinguishing between total new-people and permanent users. But once you make more than say, 100 posts, you're basically a permanent user (it would take about a month or so to get 100 posts, depending).

So what if after 100 posts, it jsut says ">100" for postcount? Now is this a good idea or am i being silly or is it not even possible with this bulletin board?

EDIT: I hadn't read Torman's post, just goes to show that at least two of us are thinking along the same lines. :cleversmileyhere:

I have concerns with both starting over and just sticking with it.

It looks awesome!!!111 However some things are screwed up it could potentially make it difficult for some people. Smiley's are gone.:(

Starting over:
Potential to be released even better, it will basicly make it a clean slate for most everyone, but post whoring should NOT be allowed.

I'd suggest keeping a backup of the 'for sale' area for future reference. Other than that, you should wipe it.

An overwhelming response in favor of starting from scratch!!!!

Ok, looks like we are gonna go thru with it and wipe the board completely. All users will have to re-register and whatnot. I will be killing the 'post count' as too many people base their e-pen0s off of it - yes, the ladies are included in the e-pen0s statement. :)

I am not certain that it will fix the cookie issues that we are currently experiencing, as the cookies already exist on everyone's PC. We will be "playing around" with some different settings to make sure there are no more issues. I would like to incorporate some new and improved smileys - so help me find some!!!

Also, we would like to rename the forums - suggestions? We will include a Movies (or general entertainment maybe?) forum, and a couple of others that have yet to be determined.

Hold onto your butts - it's gonna get a little bit bumpy :)

yeah when ya are getting rid of the post count number, set it so anyone can make up there own title as you could on the LANtrocity board..

who ever is making them up now sucks at it and is no where near as funny at making them as some of the ones people make up on there own..

admins etc can still abuse and change them but if people can't pick one they want aways, they don't care when it gets changed.. it's like beating up a person in a coma, they don't know or care..
