They don't say how fast it burns DL discs. I bet it burns them at 1x.

Might this (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-152-021&depa=0) be a better deal?

I'm actually tempted to order that nec... I'll be very glad if someone can point out the reason why it costs less than half of the Sony drive.

This NEC is a bit of a better buy.

Yeah, that seems like a good deal, I think it's the one that torman picked up a few days ago. I would pick one up if I didn't already have a dvd burner, but I'll wait until media prices are down in the $2-4 range before I bother upgrading to dual layer.

I have been looking at these since the first one came out and I am leaning towards the Pioneer DVR108D. It will do 4x on DL and appears to have pretty good reviews, other than the step-up way it changes speeds.

Specifications:
Write Speed: DVD+R DL 4X,16X DVD+R, 4X DVD+RW, 16X DVD-R,4X DVD-RW, 32X CD-R, 24X CD-RW
Read Speed: 40X CD-ROM, 16X DVD-ROM

I have seen this OEM version new for right around $100
