I think this perception is shared by a lot of people - they do run 34 (I think) oval track races every year - and 2 road courses - but they do more than just 'turn left'.

I enjoy watchin it because when you have 12 cars doin 180-200 mph while sittin 2" off the car in front of you, there is a level of skill there that I will never possess. The cars are all essentially set up the same - all within very strict guidelines mandated by NASCAR. This really makes it a "race" more than an issue of who can throw the most money @ a car to win races. I like to think of it as a 200 mph chess match -

What is funny to me tho is hearing all these people talk shit about different kinds of racing -

Drag Racing: Yay - go fast in a straight line - for 1/4 mile
NASCAR: Go fast - turn left - over and over and over and.....
Staduim Trucks & buggies: Couldn't cut it in the Baja, eh?

and I'm sure there are a ton of others that I dont' know about.
