Yeah, that's about the right time frame for technology. Except for vid cards: Those are obsolete before you buy them.

blah.. If anything thing those 8.9Gig disks are in the same range as my x16 cd-r burner.. In other words I bought that for $130 and while faster and faster kept coming out I did not really need to upgrade to save a min or two on burns..

Plus in NO way is a $160 DVD burner $$$$$ tech and as long as one can back up just about any film on just a cheapy 4.7 disk I don't think you will see this huge jump to 8.9 if cost is that much more.. Now if it's about the same, ok then many might jump ship.. By then DVD burners should be sub $100 anyways.. So 8.9 hits for say $220ish and the media of course will be x3 more.. Errrrrr I'll wait, more then happy with my Pio105...

As for the Memorex dvdr didks.. The DVD-r are media coded as CMC brand and I know some don't like them.. but for the cost who cares? Geeesh put data on better TDK stuff but for BS like films $1.20 a disk for x4 speed is just too cheap to pass up..

ZERO issues on 80+ some burns on them.. x4 right out the edge of the disk at 4.4+ gigs worth of data.. Plus same for a friend of mine running the same Pioneer 105 burner I have.. 80+ for him also, zero problems and again.. They are cheap for x4 media..

I've got the A04 Lamby. I agree. The drives will be cheap, but the media is just toooo expensive ( 8.9 gig ). That's cool, casue I have been backing up all my DVD's and most of them are on 2 DVD's. It really doesn't bother me having to change it. Besides, getting a 5 disc player. sooooooo

Anyway, Thanks for the post.

heh.. plus the funny thing is not everyone even has a DVD drive in their cpu at all.. I know I was about to burn a bunch of apps to a back up disk, then it dawned on me.. DOH.... no DVD drive in my other cpu's so how would this help me!?!!

oh and just a heads up for anyone looking for sales on media and so on.. While it tends to miss these unadvertised sort of sales at CompUSA, it does seem to track most everything else.. At least as far as the local stores go..

Yeah I almost did the same thing. DVD's are replacing CD drives like CD drives have more or less replaced floppies, but not quickly enough.

I'm just waiting for the day when terabyte solid media data storage will replace DVD's - Probably 10 years or so. Then we'll be able to just plug a crystal cube in and transfer a terabyte of pr0n in minutes.

I just bought 2 paks of 50. 4x, :-( I only burn at 2x, but, still a great price for this grade. I usually go through about 100 a month. Anyway, out the door with tax: $64.34

$64.34 / 50= $1.28 each Still a great price for GRADE A
