NEW YORK (AP) -- Pierce Brosnan appears to be turning in his license to kill, says Entertainment Weekly.

"That's it," Brosnan told EW.com. "I've said all I've got to say on the world of James Bond."

In an interview on the magazine's Web site, posted Tuesday, the Irish-born actor said 2002's "Die Another Day" was his last mission on her majesty's secret service.

"Bond is another lifetime behind me," Brosnan said.

But the 51-year-old's statement might be a negotiating ploy. Original Bond Sean Connery quit for a whole movie before being lured back for bigger bucks.

If true, England-based Eon Productions, which produces the Bond flicks, must find another star to carry 007's Walther PPK in the 21st Bond movie, scheduled for release next year.

Speculation surrounds Brits Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Gerard Butler, Jude Law and Ewan McGregor, as well as Aussies Hugh Jackman, Heath Ledger and Eric Bana.

For Brosnan, playing Bond will always be a fond memory.

"We went out on a high," Brosnan said, "and I look back affectionately at that time and doing those four movies. But I've said all I gotta say on it."

They should just stop the Bond movies until they can make them cool again, rather than just giving a trash movie filled with tons of explosions and hi-tech gadgetry.

Goldeneye was awesome because it felt like a real bond movie. The last 3 make me cry in sadness.

That's sort of like wanting to watch the Star Wars movie with good acting in it.... oh wait, there isn't one. The early Bond movies were cool for their time period, it's the same kind of thing with all series. Eventually they lose whatever appeal they had and just become endless rehash that the creators can keep cashing in on instead of making something new.

I think Hugh Jackman or Jason Statham would make an excellent Bond. They both have the screen charisma to pull it off. It's the reason why Brosnan worked so well with the character. Bond is a atitude that needs to be done right or the character falls flat on it's face. Use the wrong guy and no matter how good of a script they use...the movie will suck. Using Jude Law, Ewan McGregor or Hugh Grant would fall into the DO NOT USE group.

Tell me that Christopher Walken wouldn't make the most bad ass bond in history.

dalton was an ok bond it's just that his films hold up the least to the test of time being it was right when they could sort of kind of but not really pull off the stunts they wanted to do.. I mean come on, the 18 wheeler going on it's side and on on? blah.. It was not a bad stunt, it just looked really bad how they looked to film it..

Could always go back to a pure spy sort of film again.. I mean Bourne Supremacy just racked up some huge bank and that's just a spy film..

I would not be too shocked if Brosnan walked from the films.. He puts alot of effort into family time and he dropped out for a few years to care for a wife who was sick and so on.. Not like he needs the money anymore etc etc...

 YES! he would kick ass. If I were a bad guy and Walken was Bond, I would walk into a police station and request to be arrested for even thinking about commiting a crime. He would make bad guys cry like little girls.

Walken is more of a CIA agent imo, doesn't have that Bond charm the ladies thing going on. Although he might scare the panties right off them.
