can anyone tell me, in a practical and reasonable explanation, how the hell it is the bank's fault if you make your payment late? Now you had EVERY opportunity to pay it on time. You had the bill ontime, you had the knowledge to pay it in time at the branch. However, you didn't do it. And then you call me up and bitch and moan about how horrible the bank is because you made a payment on money YOU OWE US late?
jesus i don't even know what the hell that phone call was about!
First person that can do this I'll buy you a beer at TD's next week. Oh by the way, it has to be an answer I can't refute. I'm going to go smokey now. :)

The answer is that there is no answer. There is no reason that a person in that situation can blame the bank. The only reason for making such a claim could be that the caller is a psycho, devoid of any rational thought. Refute that..... I dare ya. :)

I can list a few reasons and at while one could claim they are not "banks" fault, it is the reason's people go in and fire up the bitch machine..
1. (and the only one I have ever used) Paid it off.. Bottom line, if I PAY off 100% the balance I have on my credit card I'm NOT paying a fee if the bank gets it late.. Not if I mailed if off in what I feel was time to get there. No way no how.. So your saying next month my bill is JUST this late fee??!?! Errr no that comes off... that is just BS.. You got your money...
2. Cycle. The thing is the billing date and the post date for the next cycle tend not to be the same day.. sooooooooo if the bill gets there 2 days late but the cycle is not started over till a week later.. Errrr too bad you did get your money before the next cycle
3. Middle of BFNW process centers.. Ok so I have a cal bank but my statement gets shipped to the middle of no where? So it takes forever.. I DID mail in time in my mind.
They should have passed a law that billing is postmark date and put an END to anyone having any issues with sending stuff in.. Ya know like your tax needs to be filled by 12am and post marked the 15th... ya get the idea.

That's too much effort for just a single beer to come up with a irefutable case. I don't think it's even possible! :cheeze:

Poncho wins. Congrats!
Sorry Deadlamb, I could refute yours easily, though I, as a consumer, understand the view point. The problem is the account owner signed a contract (aka your application) that states they will abide by the terms and rates on the account as regulated in the disclosure given at the time the account is opened. :)
Every now and then I get some completely thick-headed yet idiotic psycho caller so I felt this time, rather than get stressed and pissed, I'd post. :D but yes Poncho, if you go to TD's next week on a night Ican make it I will buy you a beer.

i agree with that point about post dating.. but I'd be ordering copies of envelopes every 2 calls
paid off varies though.. if you look at your statement, and pay the full balance.. that's not a payoff most people don't realize that any balance that is cash on just about every card has no grace period... meaning if you have even 1 dollar in cash on there, you're going to get another statement with finance charges
the number of calls i get where a person says I payed my balance in full why am I getting this charge?! and all I have to say is remember that paper you signed.. yeah, that one, here's a copy.. is recockulous
payments arn't due by the next cycle on most 90% of cards.. the next "cycle" starts when the last one ended.. but most have a certian grace period.. again, papers
bfnw process centers.. yeah, agreed 100% that's just jacked.. my personal favorite is what we do on checking accounts that we close without customer request (customer is too much of an ass-clown, threatens someone, illegal accounts and the like) we send em out of portland (statisticly the 2nd slowest postal service in the country) to a department in colorado (statisticly the first slowest post office) to be signed, then sent to said ass-clown, by mail, and none of the involved departments accept incoming calls
heh.. someone was thinking when they set THAT system up

ah but the banks always wiggle... If it was carved in stone and now bank would bend, people would stop trying... as long as someone can call up and scream and whine and get what he wants people will do it.
as for the paid off issue.. I'm talking about someone like me who carries zero credit balance.. I pay it off in full every month so I don't expect a late fee due to some screw up on them processing the bill.. But again, I have only needed to call maybe once and I'm polite about it. Unlike some I know that the person working the phones is not the reason something else happened..
Never have gotten the whole --yell at the clerk / phone op-- thing.. It gains you nothing, shows you have control issues and make you look like a jack ass to everyone else in the store.. Soooooooooooooo why some lack the self control to that level I have no idea. Well I guess I do on some level, lack of self control. Its the same reason you see white trash bar fights..

bingo.. people start yelling, I start laughing
once/if they manage to calm down they will get their help, but until then they get to wait until they grow up
Favorite customer quotes of mine:
C:If I saw you walking on the street, I'd punch you
me: If you saw me walking on the street, you'd cross like everyone else
C: What do you mean I don't have any money?! i still have checks!
Me: *blink blink*
C: The last guy waived it
Me: Oh, i apologize, they gave you incorrect information, I'm not waiving it
C: The last guy DID, I'm not lieing!
Me: I don't doubt you, I can correct the previous error if you like
C: *click*
*figgered I wanted to add a few more*
C: I want to talk to someone who can make that decision
Me: I've made that decision, the fact that you don't like it doesn't make it any less made
C: then I want to talk to your supervisor
Me: Like I said, I make that decision, it's been made, so I am declining your request, I can give you a mailing address for complaints if you like
C: So you're saying i can't move money between MY accounts?
Me: I'm saying you can't move money between Costco inc and (insert customer's name here)
C: Well that's just stupid
Me: yeah
C: What do you mean you can't Identify me.. i'm me!

and most banks wiggle because of the screamers.. people don't like being yelled at.. I have no problem with it, yell all you want, but i see people running out of here crying, those are the people that waive fees just to get rid of the person.. then later they spend more oxygen on me than they would have previously

yes i LIVE for telling people no. I will bend the rules for someone nice if I can. but if you go psycho on me i will say over and over again "read your disclosure, the answer is no." notating accounts is fun too because once one of us puts a note on your account, you aint getting jack shit waived ever again.
*sigh* i have been called so many degrading and just shocking terms it disgusts me. Like the people who get over $100 in overdraft fees simply becaudse they overdrew their account. i mean hello?! you didn't have money and wrote checks anyway!

umm.. i have cried on 2 occasions in 2 years and you know damn well i don't reverse fees for just anyone.

While I would love for you to buy me a beer, I no longer frequent that establishment. Translation, the drama and the turncoat "friends" got too much for me to deal with. That place is like an episode of One Life to Live. Anyway, if your there when Hoss is buy him a beer for me. Thanks.
Oh.... did I mention that the rest of you are losers??

People get wierd when it comes to their money. All rational thoughts leave them and they get all freaked out.
Like the guy who wanted my company to pay a $1500 data recovery fee he paid because he plugged the cable he bought from us on wrong and fried it. Out of the blue we get a letter with receipts for the work he had done to restore the data. I called him to find out what was going on and he was screaming at me threatening lawsuits and all kinds of stuff.
Stupidest thing I've ever heard..... :hittard:
