View Full Version : Rumor Control

It was about what happened with that other place.

sigh... good god this is like Aliens 3 or something. "This is Rumor Control. Here are the facts" Fine you want more of the story here ya go.. As I have said before I'm one of the few on the LANstaff that have never taken or worried about shit from Kilgore.

Ya guys managed to spam up and screw up the main post about this.. sigh..

too many you who have ZERO idea as to what happened or the back ground of LANtrocity and who can't even name all the LANstaff members, never mind know anything about the problems etc are throwing around terms like "disaster" and so on.. I'm getting tired of it!! Look if you don't know what is going on then don't sit here painting a picture that some how we, the LANstaff messed up some how.

Bottom line is that as a group the LANstaff started to have some issue with Kilgore or more to the point Kilgore started to think up issues to have with people base on whatever. I say "whatever" being facts are not the same as stuff you think are facts but are based on your opinions. This is nothing new, Kilgore has being "on the look out" to find issues for 3+ years now after a few really bad biz deals. Again, those had nothing to do with the LANtro LAN's themselves, all spin offs.. For example, lets say some sort of game application or a gamecenter or whatever.. NOT the LANtrocity LAN events, the LANstaff kept those rolling 100% by way of pure free volunteer work..

sooooooooooo this all comes to a point over the San Fran LAN's.. We lose one of the newer LANstaff member we really like (Fangel) due to Kilgore's accusations on some issues that many of us felt were groundless. The issues were ones that had NOTHING do with the LAN's now, more past biz dealing of Kilgore's and some court case he has one the way. Along the lines of you know blah blah's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate so I have to keep an eye on you!! So Fangel more or less quits..

This starts an outcry in are staff area of the board that it was BS for Kilgore to question Greg about this and that and his motives and so on. Then Kilgore walks into the bowling center in Folsom. The guys who were there claim they were just hanging out as friends, Kilgore feels they were "planning something". Zak crys BS and Kigore shoves him.. Zak goes to the board, tell Kilgore to F--- off and quits. Bunny slayer and Fish and a few others see that and quit also as this is the last straw in a long line of issues. Kilgore gets locked out of the board and web site as more or less punishment.. He pulls rank, calls the data center and "takes his ball and goes home"... Locking everyone out and taking down the site..

so there ya go... now there is a TON of background and so that I can't go into on a message board but if you wonder about what happened that is more or less the last 4 days in a nutshell.. I'm still working on damage control being I'm one of the few who still talks to everyone from Kilgore to the so called "one's planning stuff" x100. Not sure if we are going to have the LAN on the 11th or not.. I want to say yes but unless I can get a hold of the other LANstaff members I'm still not 100% sure what the deal is..

ya want more Kilgore stories talk to Mykul and Area 51 and so on.. they have had some issues in the past too that I also know the details of.. but it's not my place to cover them here.

as always... new home for me here but nothing about DeadLamb being above the law has changed.. :) I don't like to clear the air in public but there are just too many rumors about this and that going around..

Stickied.

Good job Lamb setting everything straight.

I am not going to answer 109874293874 questions regarding ANYTHING Lantro related. If others feel like they want to, fine. This whole thing has been very messy.

Ditto! Nice job Lamby on setting the facts straight. It's sad to see, to be quite honest, I'm not surprised.

I'm just happy as hell that FLG is here to support everyone looking for a home. I just wish it was under better cercumstances. The fact that all the LANtro folks are here makes me happy. I mean Shit, I havn't talk to allot of you in a long time, but I have my reasons.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Hope everyone hangs out and stays. FLG is a great group of people. Area51 51

Thank you DeadLamb for putting that explanation out. I really hope to see all of the "old" peeps at the next party and have some catch-up time since I have been "staying-low" for quite some time now due to all the, um, disturbances in the force. Stay real, FLG.

If no Lantrocity on the 11th, are there any plans to refund those of us that prepaid?

most of the disaster relief mentions were in jest. but you probablyalready knew that. just thought i'd make sure since i said it myself.. as a joke. :)

i think FLG rocks for going with the flow of it. And for making sure that even know it's still all about the games. i only wish i had signed up for here when i first signed up for lantro. :)

you know, lantrocity was like one of the first LANs i went to when i moved up here in northern cali from LA. i think my first lantrocity was the one at the san jose convention center - and i got razzed by a whole lotta you guys (kilgore, deadlamb i think, some others) cause i was playing CS, and all you guys were saying play a "REAL GAME" which was then the beta or i think demo of the then still un-released BF1942 :)

hehe, been around the block now and i still will have good memories of lantrocity and the ppl behind it. but then again, its time to move on, move forward...

so lets just take it one day at a time, raz the CS players (can u beleive that ppl still play it?), have some fun, enjoy the company of some really cool people, and LAN on :D

yea, its been a blast the few years with lantrocity but now its FLG - because i say it over and over, LANs are 90% about the ppl you enjoy fraggin with - that is the real reason why you always come back.

peace...out

Hey gang. I just (re-?) signed up on FLG. Just thought I'd let you all know what happened (is happening?) to the LANtro servers from my perspective, since I'm the one who's been providing the colo space and bandwidth. The servers (well, the "old" web and email servers) are both up and running, but I have no admin control over either one of them (well, not without violating the security and sanctity of the systems, anyway). Kevin (or ???) has changed the IP address so it's not even pointing to my ip space anyway.

With no reasons offered, Kevin "ordered" the server to be turned OFF on Tuesday, but I had to leave town before I could go over and take care of that, so it's still powered up. The mailserver is still up, but I would not trust anything being sent or received through it at this point (personal opinion).

I'm not sure what the fate of LANtro will be, but I doubt it will involve me if Kevin has anything to say about it. The fact that he has shut down the site means that there won't likely be future LANtro events and I, along with many others, are not likely to be repaid monies we've put into the events to make sure things went smoothly (anyone want to buy some slightly used hardware? :D). I know that this group (FLG) is not about da cash, and I respect that. I guess I can get by without being repaid (it's less than $2k for me, anyway). I was involved with LANtro for business reasons (software development, specifically). I took a gamble and lost. It would be nice, however, if some of the others who have been with the group a long time, gave cash to keep things going, and STILL have not been repaid, could get some of it back somehow. Maybe Kevin will make things right in the future... but who knows? I just wanted to bring it up in case some of you wanted to set things straight and help out those others that helped in the past.

I wish all of you the best of luck. I may check in here from time to time, if that's all right with the rest of you. And I may just show up at some of the LAN parties, especially as my kids get older and express a desire to pwn you guys (and gals!). Feel free to drop me a line and keep me posted on whatever's happ'nin in your lives. My email address is in my profile.

Thanks for the SIMMs/DIMMs/RAM/SDRAM/RAMBUS (memories, get it?)

Thanks for the update. Bummer about losing $$$ on the venture for y'all though. Maybe we can pass the collection plate at the next FLG event? :D

Barry...you are always welcome here and thank you for your post. If you can ever make an event please do....we have some mad BBQ'n skills going on. Plus we can always use a 'practice' target in the games so we can figure out aiming. :)

Hey Barry, It's Mike Murray, XO Communications. Nice to see you here bro. Like Frog said, your always welcome here bro. And, if you ever decide to give me a shot on that DS3, pricing has dropped dramatically and our coverage has increased. anyway, good luck bro and hope to see you at a LAN. :-)

I started going to the lan parties starting with the cal expo event. It was really kind of overwhelming seeing as how I was fairly new to this type of event!! It has been an enjoyable and learning expeirence for me and I have recieved nothing short of excellent help and respect whenever I attended these events. I hope everything gets straightened out because I look forward to the lans. I learn something every time I go.
