How much bandwidth does your site use?

Ugh - today is Oct 1 - as of this minute, we have used almost 1 gig of BW - that equates to 30 gigs per month - OH MOMMA!

Sooooo--Going forward there may be a few "tweaks" put in place to help lighten up the load so I can afford to keep the community.

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up...we are also working on FLG v2.0 - new look - new feel - new color scheme - and vBulletin - w00t! It's not gonna happen over night, but it will happen.

So in the mean time - hang out - talk shit - and have fun :)

At the level of bandwidth mykul has, I would think getting a bulk of LANtro's traffic off that redirect is more or less like a mini /. syndrome

the board is not hosting pics, it's just getting too much traffic or at least a bit more then planned for... Keep in mind the past lan here were all house lans and smaller in scope by choice.. ya don't need much bandwidth for that I would guess.. but looking to go up to 40 people then getting LANtro traffic piled on top.. ouch..

Worst case, ya guys might need to boost the cost of the lan a few nickles to help cover bandwidth... I mean I know everyone like to throw around the "no profit" lines but as you know, even at $20 LANtro was never really making $$$.

Heh. I was just going to post that your math was a little off, and it was only eight hundred and some megabytes with is only about 25GB/month, but then it dawned on me that the day is not over yet :shock: It's up to 922MB now, so I think your GB/day estimation is correct.

However, I don't think the level of posting that is going on today will continue. Seems like there was just a huge rash of posts (the WTF happened thread greq 10 pages/hr.) while people were trying to figure out what was going on, and see if they could find their friends here. (Kinda like a message board version of a natural disaster :D ) Anyway, I think things will level off soon, and the month will end under 30GB. Just my prediction ninja

Might help a little - but I have reduced the sizes (in bytes and pixels) that are allowed to 165x165 and 25k. Changed the front page to have only a few stories on it, instead of 5.

I think that most of the bandwidth usage comes from the fact that we had so little traffic for so long, that we kinda didn't realize how many graphics n shit are on the site. We'll be takin care of that with FLG v2.0 :D

Naw, we aint gonna start chargin. That has the "GHEY" written all over it. This is a fun hobby for me, and charging will turn it into a gay ass business. Bleh - if it's only a few bux, then we cover it - if it's more, then we make adjustments. If it's 400 bux (like for the building) then we have to offset the cost a little bit. Not really an issue :)
