Hey, does anyone know the name of that program that let you run a virtual PC under windows? So you could install another OS and it would look to the other OS like it had it's own machine. (Please don't tell me it was anything like 'VirtualPC' 'cause then I'd feel really stupid!)

VNWare runs in Windows, too. YOu can run Windows under Windows, or Linux under Windows, or whatever you want.

I also have the beta build for Microsoft Virtual Server, which works pretty well. Let me know if you would like to give it a try. So far I have loaded the following OS's on it. RedHat, NT4, Win2k AS and Win2k3. I had all the VMs running on a Opteron setup with 2gigs memory and it was pretty cool having them all running at the same time. Why? because I could...

The windows version works pretty well. I have a win98 drive set up for older games.

Heh. Well, Gremlin's post was the first I read (and he called me) so I went with VMware. Cool program. I installed 98se under a window (to play an old game) and it works great. Although, it was a little discomforting watching 98 setup in a window as it displayed the progress FORMATING DRIVE C!

I think I'm gonna see what it can do with linux now. Hopefully it has X drivers...

It does, hopefully your using the latest version, as it's Linux support is great (disclaimer, great if you use RedHat, not sure on the other distros).

ahvn't gotten to linux yet, but it doesn't seem to do be able to install it's "tools" under FreeBSD :(

I don't think you are going to run Carmageddon 2 very well in VMware, you can't get hardware 3d and I doubt it'll push software 3d fast enough to be comfortable.

I've installed the tools under Linux in it, not under FreeBSD though. I just now tried, couldn't mount the floppy. Really the only thing you'd want is an XFree driver. If you aren't going to use XFree the you wouldn't need to worry.
