Naw, ain't really gone "soft" - er..wait....after lookin at that guys tree trunk stuffed into that chicks ass, yes, I went WAAY soft. OMFG that was worse that Goatse - and probably the most disturbing part is that there are people that actually get off to that shit......ain't that rite, Silly? :)

No worries man - I just wanted to keep it semi-work safe, as I tend to browse the boards during the day. Lots more activity now that Lantro is down than there usually is.....

I came to the conclusion that warez sites/boards are rather stupid about 5 years ago. They're generally overrun with 12 year olds going 'OMG U HAEV TO COME TO MY WAREZZ SITE WITH LOTS OF WAREZ AND GAMEZZEZ AND APPEZ!!!!!!!!111111," which ends up being a geocities site with 45 popups and stolen dead links.

But then there's bittorrent. A p2p built on http sites. A person seeds a file, posts their seed on a torrent site, and the first few people download from the seed. While they're downloading, they're also uploading to the next few people to start downloading, and so on. So pretty often you can max out your connection downloading.

First install bittorrent, you can get the original and all sorts of hacked versions all over. For sites, try:

http://www.bytemonsoon.net

For DVD-R files (4 gig download  ):

I've thought about getting bittorret, but one of my biggest problems with p2p is that when your downloading from someone they can just cancel your download whenever they feel like it. Which can be frustrating at times.
I don't know if this still happens, but it's why I stopped using p2p a while ago.

There's no way for people to stop uploading to you on bittorrent. Even if they kill the connection using a firewall or such, then their own downloading will be slowed down (supposedly).

Cooky. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

Only drawback in .torrent is that your IP is stored in the torrent file. That's how it connects multiple users. Goes to your IP through a specific port for transfering up and down. I use it here and there, but probably wouldn't want to try and claim the "most DL's ever oiver TORRENT" title as anyone can pretty much DL the torrent file as if they were going to download it and then just compare how many occurences of a single IP pops up over the files. Kind of like what Nazi RIAA is doing for thier petty lawsuits.

Bah! bittorrent was the last thing I installed before I decieded that I needed to reinstall my OS of few days ago. That thing was a piece of shit. I don't like the fact that you can't limit your upstream BW, which is stupid IMO. Also not sure, but I'd swear that bittorrent was running in the background at all times. That could just be paranoia, but all the talk about "forced" uploads made me nervous. Not that I don't allow uploads in other p2p progs, I just want some control over them.

I do just fine with emule right now. It's not the fastest, but seems to have anything I want.

I don't think the .torrent stores the IPs of the users, just that of the tracker site. The tracker site monitors users and connects them to each other, the file doesn't have anything to do with it. That's why you can connect to any new seeders/leechers who get on after you already start your download. As far as restricting upload bandwidth goes, you can use this: http://ei.kefro.st/projects/btclient/ . It's a superior client that lets you throttle your upload speed (nice if you're on a network with gamers), but if you slow it down too much, your downloads will generally be slowed down too.

yes, this is why torrents are nice. You're pretty well assured that you'll get some amount of download, since the clients like to trade info with each other, and thus you won't get much if you're not uploading. Their problem is that they are totally reliant on someone being around to seed, but that's what the various boards are for. You can request people reseed stuff and whatnot. I'm sure a l33t private ftp is better, but torrents are second best for reliability.

I have to agree with this. If I install anything on my computer I want to be able to control what it does.

If you want control then please don't tell me you are using any Microsoft products. (Sorry...couldn't resist)
