Most of you know where I work....and I have been talking with the power's at be. Guess what! FLG is starting to get some stuff to help power our lans.

Got Opteron?

This is an older 'engineering' sample board but it runs baby! Has dual 240s and 512DDR on it....not bad for free! Try to score some more stuff in the coming months so watch out!

Maybe Froggy-claus will be good to you this Xmas season. Have you been a good boy so far?

What's that got ethernet wise? Is that a PCI-X slot or just 66/64?

It's a engineering sample design board we gave out to board company's. It doesn't have anything onboard. That slot is a PCI-X slot though so there is SOME good things about the board. Kind of hard to argue with 'free' stuff that was handed to me. :D

There's something missing..... Hmmmmm, I can't put my finger on it. Hard drive, no I see that. CD-ROM, nope that's there.......

Hehe, that's my favorite type of cooling. I call it the CS cooling method. Or, the Cases Suck cooling method. If I ever come over, remind me to drag my feet alot before I touch your stuff.

Well, you do understand that AMD CPU's put off a little more heat than their competitors, and therefore require "creative" cooling solutions ;)

Funny Response: Great for winter....BAD for summer!

Real Answer: The room was over 85 with the sun hitting these things AND they were running full bore doing the install. The heat sink was barely even warm AND it's a small, quiet 70mm fan. Socket temp afer munching away for 30 minutes doing the install....38C. Not bad eh? I almost did cook the harddrive though

Talk about heat... The next gen P4 is going to have a self contained H2O cooling device instead of the normal HSF unit. Intel is #1... heat wise I mean of course...

That think looks wicked Mark. Fast? :D Much game host-age off of that. I gotta tell you though, you have to lay off the graphics horsepower and find something a little more reasonable. That 4MB card is too much! ;)

Also, I have a pimp-shit case that regular ATX size but about 2" wider that will fit an EATX board like that one. LMK if you're interested. Or if not that, I have about 30 empty 2U rack cases that fit pretty much any EATX server board. Same case as that Xeon server of Mod's.

For a sample board and sample CPUs the thing has actually been pretty stable. I will say that I get the best performance off Windows Server 2003. Don't be knocking that 90's video card...it's the only PCI card that I had left! Downside of the being a sample board there is NOTHING built on the mobo.

I actually was able to get a second one of these boards so getting a couple of cases is my next big priority. If you could part with one of the 2Us and/or the ATX case I would be MOST appreciated. I am going to try and bring one of these beast to FLG4 but space is going to be tight so I might hold off. I will bring one to the next Lantro in August so we can throw some load at it. Kind of hard to do it at my house....:D

Have you tried it running the 64 bit version of Windows Server 2003? I have the 2003 Enterprise edition-64 bit version, and could get you a copy to "test" with.

I actually have the 64-bit version for 2003 that is optimized for Opteron that is still in beta. I haven't had much time to load it and run the thing yet but hopefully in a couple weeks I will. As I get more playing time on the thing I will post some more 'eye candy'.

Thanks for the offer by the way....
