If you knew you lived in a "gun free zone" would you not worry about someone invading that zone with an illegal gun?

They'd have free reign over that "zone" since the law would state that you couldn't own a gun in that zone. And by "zone" I may mean counties since counties are scrambling for new laws preventing guns, period.

Poncho probably has a better insight(gun knowledge-isist) but legislation on a 100% prevention doesn't lend well to keeping psycho's out of schools since it seems to be the main concern.

I might just be thinking from the 'other side' but it seems to me that if you remove 100% of the guns, then anyone WITH a gun gains even more power.

I still don't advocate giving a gun to everyone... just eliminating the circumstance where you could walk into an area & be instantly a terrorist by having a gun in a "no gun" area.

Truer words were never written...whether that person be criminal, police, or military - which of them will you argue with if they're holding a gun on your defenseless ass, regardless of whether or not you're in the right.

Besides if someone really wants to hurt others they will find a way. A rented Uhaul and some handy farm chemicals could do more damage than most gun's. Now I wouldn't mind seeing a say two week mandatory waiting period for anyone under the age af say 25, during which they are interviewed and background is checked out by actually visiting the places a person habits. Might just head off something, but it will cost so much $$ that it would never go through.

Like Chris Rock said, "Dont go to parties with metal detectors. Sure it feels safe inside but what about all those mutherfucka's waitin outside with guns they know you aint got one?"

I am not a gun owner but I oppose these kind of legislations. Noy so sure of the free reign, but it definitely emboldens the wannabes.

Personally I don't really buy the 'the fact that a criminal doesn't know if someone has a gun or not deters them' argument. I think what deters crime is federal "pound me in the ass" prison. If I made the laws I would make it completely illegal to have a gun in public (no concealed permits whatsovere) and if you are caught with a gun in public it's a mandatory 25 years in federal prison.

What really bugs me, though, is this kind of shit where some fucktard shoots up a school or something and there's this competition with politicians to show that they're the one who cares the most. I mean honestly, 32 kids died? I don't mean to sound calous or cold-blooded, but that's really not that bad. Sure it's terrible it happened, but how many kids are killed each year in a car accidents? Or by cancer? Yet you don't hear plans to outlaw cars... or outlaw cancer! No, but when there's a media frenzy like this all the sudden "something has to be done!".

Oh, and let's start a pool to see how long before this thread ends up moved to the playpen... I'm voting within three posts after this one...

If everyone had a gun then society would be much politer.

And you'd be most likely dead.....and unable to further bastardize that quote.

meh. The swiss gun model would never work over here.. 8million population Vs just California at 30+million.. As the link says, every male does military training and then more or less keeps his own gun..

So ya have "Small town Usa" on a country wide scale. Small towns don't tend to have Detroit level of crime/shooting stats in the first place.

Mandatory military service in the usa? Not going to happen with out a world melt down. Return of the draft? Not going to happen IMO.

Going to "thin out" the population of California down to 7million? Nope.. Soooooooooo what are we left with? 30milion people, mostly totally un-trained in firearms and so we just go with the swiss model and arm everyone?

errrrrrr...

As for gun free zones, they work to stop "whoops" shootings, if everyone plays by the rules but same can be said about better gun safety practices.

It depends upon one's interpretation of the Constitution.

According to California law no I can't... but you know what they say about gun controll right?
