I went to their lan in san jose in august or when ever it was . Had a good time with web and assasin. I could not believe how quick I got my ass handed to me in the official games. Other than that I had a decent time. I did however win a 75g raptor drive so that was very cool. Their was not alot of leeching as you can imagine but it was there!! Anyway I think I might go to this one as well!!!!

Marine World will still be there the next weekend. Plus MW seriously sucks ass now with all the jackass thug wannabees and huge lines. Skip that place and head on down to Great America. MW used to be cool as youd could get some rides in and then take a break and check out the animals, but now it's pretty much all rides with the animals as a very minor peice. I guess I'm a bit bitter as I liked Marine World much better when it was in the old redwood City location. No rides (Except for the waterslide) but it was like going on a trip to the jungles, safari, and the off to the forest all in the same day.

Well came back from the lan. What can I say. Other people can explain it better than I can but here goes.
Some of the competitions/raffles were stupid. For example: they would give you raffle tickets to win prizes. Well the end prize turns out you had to do something to win. The best of that is what you had to do for that was already done by somene else (If my grammar and spelling is wrong, I don't give a crap. If you want to correct it, become an English teacher). AMD/ATI wanted to give away their ATI card (DX10) away. They aked for a group of people to come by. Group that joined was approximately 45-45? (Swagger can correct the #) Split the group in 2 parts on both of the stages. Asked them to remove their shoes and put in a pile and mix it up properly. Than asked the group to switch. Once woth word go they would go the original pile and put on their shoes and the one whos ties the shoes will win the card. So you can imagine what happens when the word GO was said. Next price to win after that was a CPU. Four people came up front had to do impressions to win. Now comes Creative for their final raffle drawing which was for a Fatality sound card. They call 4 raffle numbers to come up the stage to do impressions again. Creative ain't it?? Anyway here is when you give credit when it is due. One of the 2 finalists had his group in the crowd as they were the judges. He sucked real bad and yet since they were the loudest he won. Since Creative knew that he sucked, later on they found the other guy and gave him the same card as well. Kudos !!
Let's not forget the main lan folks. Yes there were some cool people as well. Kuyaglen had about 2 500 gigs of stuff to share (Even poncho would drool over it :P) Of course, there were ForceRun and his brother. I am not going to say anything what I saw. Well at the lan there was enough stuff like key chains, can openers etc. Swagger hears ForceRun saying, there were more stuff at the Intel Lan . And some other folks who are totally nuts. To get some shirts they were willing to dive into chairs. Yep go break a knee why don't you :P
I will let Fangel, Hezimoe, Silly, Swagger and Vandalous say the rest.

Had a decent time. The big BF2 game toward the end of the night on Saturday was a blast! I think we had the server full at one point so that was nuts.
Grem - did any FLG'ers win anything in any of the other raffles after the Creative one?
Gremlin
06-17-2007, 10:06 PM
Nope no flg won anything.
BTW Thanks to Kuyaglen for bringing up FLG name up on stage!!!

yeah that stuff tend not go over the well with most of the FLG crowd.
I don't even want to get my picture taken holding some gear so I'm sure as hell not jumping past any hoops to get it.. I think the new-to-lans groups like to kick around and try out all sort of ideas..
around here we already know those idea SUCK ass and go with ticket, number, *yawn* we have a winnnar, next ticket..
side note.. Ya know it's been a few years... I wonder how hot the "We have a winnnaaar" girl from the cal-expo lan is now? I mean she clearly was going to grow into a hottie unless she started to eat everything in the fridge....

Yea, they had guys running around in there underware, getting tatoos for some ram. Not really what I needed to see.
Other than the BF2 game on Sat night (Which was ad-hock), there really wasnt much gaming going on. No organized games (Other than the turneys) and no real sense of direction , or planning from the Event organizers. The sponsors also seemed really un-prepared (Creative was ok though), and we're just making things up on the fly (Aka AMD, which had the worst presentations I've ever seen at a show, I really wanted to win a proc and smash it up on the stage screaming Intel FTW). Also, except for the free pizza and drinks (hot cokes, Costco pizza, and a wait in 90 degree weather for 45 minutes in a hot park about 3-4 blocks away from the lan) on Sat afternoon, there was no free food or drink (Like PDX lans, or Nvidia lans), which is fine, I understand I'm spoiled from Nvidia lans, but having to pay $3.00 for a Coke from the lame ass SJ convention booth, was really not cool. Techinically there was no outside food or drink allowed (But no one payed any attention), but you had to hike a few blocks away to buy a drink from a store. So you could by a few, but they would warm up pretty quickly. MonsterEnergy drinks was giving away some free drinks which helped (And no Bawls in sight wtf), but it was still pretty lame. And there was no real security of any kind on-site. Anyone could of walked off with someones rig (which I hope didn't happen) and no one would of cought them.
I donno I guess I just expected more organization from a lan of this size and caliber. Making people jump all over each other and risk getting really hurt for a damm tee-shirt, to me just screems lameness and it just felt like a bunch of first-time hosts were running the show.
I dont think I'll be going back next year, as it's just too much $$ to have to pay for a hotel for two nights, parking every day, 3.00 a coke.

This was one of the worst LANs I’ve been to in my entire life. From the moment I got there the stress level completely outweighed any fun that there was to be had. Despite there being crazy amounts of unoccupied asphalt surrounding the tent on every side, there was no parking allowed. People who parked there anyway and even some people who just parked there to unload ended up getting parking tickets. The main parking lot next to the building was charging $18 a day for parking, and for a 3-day event that adds up fast. There were other parking lots but they all either filled up super-quickly, were far away, or hard to find. There were no carts or anything like that to make transporting equipment easier.
The food was non-existant, other than $3 sodas (including water bottles, which were also $3), $4 stale pretzels, etc. On Saturday, they had us walk like a mile over to a park for “free pizza” which didn’t end up arriving for another hour, leaving probably 200+ gamers sitting at a hot park doing pretty much nothing for all of that time. When the food got there it was cardboard flavored Costco pizza. We pretty much all agreed that it would have been a “better deal” to just have walked to a McDonalds and gotten a few burgers off the dollar menu or something.
There was no internet, or rather there was, but it was very locked down. Only XFire and Steam worked. The network was only 100Mbit using the same craptastic D-Link switches it seems like they’ve used forever. Both of these are things you would expect from a LAN circa 1999, much less any LAN that has occurred during the 21st century, never mind the year 2007…
The bathrooms were a joke. The doors on the stalls locked from the inside, which meant that tards quickly found out that you could lock it from the inside then close it while it was empty basically locking anyone else from ever using it. The ones that weren’t perma-locked of course never had any toilet-paper.
What happened to the prizes? I’m not sure how others feel but I don’t give a fuck about doing stupid shit like sumo-wrestling or a power-supply toss in order to win prizes. Almost the entire LAN you could look around and see more empty computers than people sitting and playing games. Aren’t computer games what this is supposed to be all about, not doing gimmicky crap all day? Maybe they should just get rid of the computers and start filming a modern version of “Wild and Crazy Kids” at the event.
I remember LANparties, even big ones, where you would go, spend maybe $20 max, maybe an extra $20 for food+gas, and spend the entire time having a blast with friends. Even the bigger LANs still had a friendly feel to them that was mostly devoid of stress. These LANs now are beginning to become about as fun as going to the airport. It feels like rather than them making any effort to make things easy or cheap for people they are doing the absolute minimum to “accommodate” everyone, with a “tough shit” attitude in terms of the cost as if they have become a hot-shot event like E3 or something. I’m sorry but for the $150 or more it seems like it cost to even attend one of these things now, I think I’ll play games from home next time and buy myself a fucking “prize”.

I ended up with enough stuff that I would do it again.
Won a couple of games paying DOA...I know its console....BUT!....the girl beat me the previous day when I was just milling around at the booth....so i had to go back the next day and win twice...just to justify myself LOL.
I got that PhysX card....but still deciding if its less trouble to sell it or just throw it in my machine for shits and giggles.
Having the OCZ mouse is nice...I never bought myself a decent mouse before...its really different having a gaming mouse.
Spent alot of time talking to Wedge from PMS clan....she was way cool.
Kuyaglen as usual was the life of the party.....I still say his horse owned the donkey!
Getting to see Assassin from Mayhem was way cool.
If WE organized better....FLG (if we had more people show) and TMC and Mayhem and other decent groups and all sat in the same area...i think we would have a better time...we could call out servers and what not....all those people in the same area...it would be a decent size lan by itself.
I would go to another.

Went to the lan as well and yes the games were practically nonexistent. Finally got my rig working right but there was nothing being played so I spent alot of the time walking around checking out the booths. I did something stupid and entered a baton or jousting contest for a 37 inch lcd and got hit in the head hard enough to produce an anyuresm!!!! Needless to say the contest for me ended quickly. It was good hanging with the flg peeps but this lan seemed alot different than last year. They didn't have cs and this one they did and that seems to bring out moronic crazed assed kids!!!! Anyway I had a good time hanging out with my roomie swagger!!! Over all had a pretty decent time but I think I llike the smaller lans better more game play and less running around, and definitley more fellowshipping!!!

06-18-2007, 10:21 PM
Yeah, I have to agree with GNR. In fact, I no longer feel that FLG can use the title Worst LAN Evar, so I've edited that. :(
The worste part for me was the AMD "sponsors". Unable to come up with anything on a technical level to defend their CPUs they reverted to, and this is a direct quote, "Intel sucks!". The one main jackass was even talking shit about ATI video cards on stage. Way to rep the company douche. Oh and let's not forget my most favorite AMD line... When asked a question like "when are you going to move to DDR3?" the answer was "when our customers ask for it." So thanks. Your customer asks you a quesiton and the answer is 'when you tell us you want us to, but we'll tell you when you tell us you want us to.'
And, last but not least eWiz who made my "I'll never buy from you" list. These fucktards handed out raffle tickets and then picked names off of their signup list to award prizes. If the person didn't claim the prize tough shit, they were going to 'return them to the vendor'
