"People are learning English, and it's despite the fact that the government has been under-funding English programs," he said. "If Mr. King is interested in helping people learn English then he would support increased funding for these programs and he would get rid of his bill, which is pointless."

BS... funding? Classes? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.. my own grandfather taught himself English with a bible, daily news paper and translation book of German to English.. Cry me a damn river you can't get your gov funded class ya lazy bastards..

LOL... English as a national language. One of the biggest jokes in legislature. It'll never pass... but it's used as a talking point/threat when a side needs it. I care one way or the other since it'll only apply to LEGAL immigrants who will usually learn the language anyway. It's the illegals that typically don't care to learn, and they aren't affected by this anyway. Meh.

I actually agree with this, I think it would create incentives - plus, citizenship is not a right but something earned. you really can't make it in American society without grasping English plus there is enough residency requirement (I think 3-5 years legal residence) that you'd have the time to learn it.

I dont agree though with blind English-only mandates because they're too broad.
