Possible Intel LAN in **JUNE**

Had a meeting with a couple of guys from Intel couple of days ago. They would like to hold a lan party with us and other lan groups. This lan is a two-day LAN on 6/2-6/3. It is going to be held at the Intel Campus in Folsom. The main thing about this lan is the entrance fee is going towards charity (United Way). They are going to be talking to Molan as well to get more people to join. Their main goal is to get about 150 people or may be more to turn up. We will let you know the entrance fee is as the month gets closer. Before anyone starts making any comments, there will be enough power for everyone :P

Now since this lan is being held at Intel site, there will be NO ALCOHOL allowed whatsoever. I know some of you are going to be sad about it :D. You can bring in your own food and soft drinks if you want. The cafeteria might be open but the possibility of that is low for now.

There will be prizes to be given out like CPU, Motherboard. Details will follow.

I’m aware of that demo scene. However, since our club (RIGG) is part of Intel, we have to abide by its terms that explicitly state that we have to use legal software copies. I don’t go checking for CD’s but if I notice someone using pirated software I’ll ask that person to stop. Our event and the company is at risk if I don’t do so. As for file sharing, as long as it’s legal and not objectionable it’s ok. Porn, a staple of lans, is also a no-no as there are underage children at our lans (I have 3 already signed up). Judging from past events I don’t think this makes the lan less fun, if anything it makes it more accessible to a greater number of people.

I sent an e-mail out asking for clarification on a couple things, big one being software purchased in Juarez and file sharing. If anybody else has any questions/concerns please bring them up... realize that this is being held at Intel so I wouldn't be surprised if there are strict rules in place that may take the fun out of it for most of us and I'd hate to walk into the place expecting to get my leech on and be disappointed. :D

Thanks for following up, Poncho. This is similar to GF3 where they pretty much nuked filesharing. They didn't look very closely at what we were using to play our games so people should be ok with backups as long as you have contingency plans in place since internet connectivity will be present.

Should still be fun though. Hopefully we'll have Unreal Tournament 3 or Quake Wars to play by then.

Anti-Leeching is going to hurt those of us who are poor college students.

If this is going to happen, it would definitely be important to have a definite games list so that we can acquire all the games to be played before the LAN begins.

And I call BS on the CD being the defining indicator of ownership. I use CD cracks on all my games, legit or otherwise, simply because it's a pain in the ass to switch CD's all the time. I don't doubt most of the other people here to that too.

I'm in. No leaching is not an issue for me as long as I know what we'll be playing ahead of time. I only keep 8 - 10 games installed at any one time and only 3 or 4 of those are games we play. As Masque noted, I also use NoCD cracks for all the games I purchase and I have no intention of bringing 20 game CD's.

The group that is supposed to be running this is the same one that put on a LAN at Intel up here this past Saturday. Drew about 200 peeps (living ones, not marshmallow) and was rather well done, with a few notable exceptions.

They had some EXCELLENT swag to give away, as well as some real crap ( Half-dozen quad-core CPUs, a handful of BadAxe2 boards, cases, PSUs, etc...mouse pads, crappy joysticks) They provided pizza (if you were only hungry for two slices :twitchy: ) at 6pm. The network is only 10/100, so the leeching is tedious, but they put on some decent tourneys, and it was quite a laid-back format, with the exception of the Intel security guards standing at the edge of the room, watching us like hawks...

From what I understand there WILL NOT be internet access there, which makes sense since for that to work you'd have to be able to log into the Intel network... and most of you don't work there. :P Now... they do have a guest wireless account, so feel free to bring a laptop to get your surf on. Fast pipe too... and TOTALLY open to everything. Uh oh... I may have said too much.

On this note, if you want to share stuff out, I'd recommend either a PW protected administrative share (something like FLG$ or the likes) or set up an FTP server.

I know here @ Folsom it's hard to get hard lines that are open and isolated from the internal network, that's what they have the wireless guest account for. It's solid too.... if you don't believe me ask Hoss. He was playing FFXI at work for a few weeks with it. :P

Taking them so long? Lets see they are bunch of engineers who are doing this on their own. They are not paying anyone do it as they do not have extra funds. The main thing that was holding them was registration. They were trying to get help from Vector to help them with registration but found out the long way he will not. Are you willing to do it for free ? If so I can ask them to get in touch with you.

We're listed at $549K for 20 acres. There's a barn, a couple of sheds, and a pair of mobile homes on the property (1200 sf & 2300 sf). Swags and I have joked about cleaning up the barn and making it the FLG LAN center. :D

yeah if one gets use to the total random nature of the stuff we play at the smaller FLG LANs it's easy to forget just how many "OMGF WTF!!!111 HAX($ORZ!!!" sort of CS players that are still out there..

but to be fair, only reason we escape the CS suck fest here is that we all sort of know it each other.. Even when we play CS, most of us are screwing around and bitching how much it sucks..

even back in the :secret: days there was a lot of CS, even if we did not want it! There is a reason I call CS the "LAN baby sitter" being sooooo many will still sit and play CS and only that POS cs game allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll day.

Honestly, the lan has potential. One of the biggest things is the Sac Lan fest crew having no real experiance running a lan as the groups only a few months old. But the power and layout was good and I'd try it again (only for one day though, as Sunwas a washout.

I truly did enjoy being the Buzz Kill for all the little C.S. Bitches....and yelling shit out about their lack of self respect for playing a little bitch game...and generally talking shit to their faces about CS and talking shit to the LAN organizers about...well whatever I felt I needed to talk shit about.....I truly think for about a 4 hour stretch I was trying to see what it would take to get kicked out...Not long after I realized....We were the BLACK HOLE of the LAN...I wouldn't be surprised if the LAN people would have been too scared to come over there....it was nice and hostile.

Stupid Gaming.....The room was divided for a big game of BF2....The Team captains...Star Wars kid and his Big Brother.....Big Brother pulled out a presentation stand with paper on it and had maps...and divided everyone into groups...it was really dumb......UTK04....they made one person man a mouse..the other the keyboard...they couldn't look at the screen...and then had two people spotting for movement and aim....When Kuyaglen and his team ANAL..fuckin rocked the game...they called it cheating and made everyone start over and switch places...it was bullshit!!!!!!...after that teams were switch players mid game...had guys looking at the screen...and the dip shits at LAN Slide were still watch ANAL for cheating...while at least one other team was blatantly doing so.

I can't believe the hold CS has on people. At the last molan, we played CS for about an hour or so... but that was CS 1.5. So it was more like we were going retro, not actually taking it seriously. And it was fun -- but part of it was just that it was retro. Most of us had already quit CS back before 1.5 ever even came out.

I don't know what it is with CS. Its like American Idol.

They need better prizes if Intel is putting their name on it. Handing out old 10/100 PCI NICs and unboxed Soundblaster Live PCI soundcards as prizes during the raffle is COMPLETELY amateurish. If I can score swag from Thermaltake, Antec, Alienware, etc, then surely Intel can as well.

If I were staying, I'd totally propose we work with the Intel guys to make their LANs better. Maybe Grem or one of the other FLG future-admins can look into it...

Great facility for a LAN. With better promotion, communication, coordination, etc, this would be a good 2-day LAN. As it stands right now, I'd only be able to endure one day unless we spent the night with MOAR TRACKMANIA!

I can't believe the hold CS has on people.

the geek fu skill set needed for CS is very limited and the maps are super simple. So for people who don't play a lot of cpu games it's very easy to pick up after a while away and still do "ok".

the game is mostly rush forward, aim at door, wait..

This makes for a good balance between normal players and nerds being you don't have to move and aim or even know the levels. Problem is how mind numbing boring the game play can become after about an 45min..

Let me see if I can guess the map played the most? I'm going to go WAY out on a limb here but I think, they might of, maybe, played..... De_dust a lot?! :ROFL:

Vandy and I sat down at the PC's WarMachine brought for a CS contest....We were the first ones....It was great watching how our Old School game play was bugging the New Leet CS players...The big question between us...."Where the fuck do I click to buy more ammo"....And then old method of running out and then slowly walking and trying to flank the other guy in a 1 on 1 game....instead of running out bunny hopping with a sniper rifle.

And we gave them a nice John Wayne clinic in having the balls to pull a knife and just have a knife fight.......I didn't see any others after us even try to pull the knife.

as to the power They had every microwave in the cafe unpluged for the circuit,
yet there was a 50A 240v plug right in the middle of the room that could have had a breakout box on it reducing the tripping hazard (that we signed a waver covering Intel's ass about)

There were a lot of total B.S. prizes and the raffle format left a little to be desired. :cheese:

There were Three projectors and Screens at one end of the building that could have been used to show the tournament play.

FYI ForceRun is not the Lan organizer. The Lan was run by Gary and Javier from Intel. We are just a Local gaming group that was helping out, and only ForceRun and I were representing SLS.

The Intel guys want your input if you stay quiet and then just bitch about it on your forums they are never going to see it. Right now SLS is hosting the forums for the Sac lan, so if you have a comment to make post it there.

As for tourneys for the next lan it will probably decided by a majority vote. So again if you want something let them know.

I did walk over there and wacthed them long enough to realize they were cheating. And during the second round the admins watched the other teams, sure maybe one or two guys glanced at the screen but the were not winning or doing it long enough to change the outcome. If you were there the whole time ethier you were so blind and didn't see it or you didn't care. They were lucky Gary is a nice guy and didn't eject them from the lan and he even let them play the next round which they lost horribly because their cheating failed.

FYI ForceRun is not the Lan organizer. The Lan was run by Gary and Javier from Intel. We are just a Local gaming group that was helping out, and only ForceRun and I were representing SLS.

The Intel guys want your input if you stay quiet and then just bitch about it on your forums they are never going to see it. Right now SLS is hosting the forums for the Sac lan, so if you have a comment to make post it there.

It makes hime out as a Co-organizer with the Intel crew, and by implication of
them asking SLS for help making them the "Lead" organized/promoter.
SO Along those lines that is where the corralation of force run being an organizer comes from.

Well is it all started for me when Javier contacted us (SilentDeath and I) as put of SacramentoLanSlide and the FlatOut Lan, and told us that Intel wanted to host a Lan in Sac Town. After coming to, from the shock and joy of the news, we agreed to help out. After all that was our goal to have a good size sac Lan.
It took like 5 phone meetings and a bit of time on our forums for us and a ton of time spent by Javier and Gary (the Intel guys) plus a bunch of others to finally setup and run the Lan. All in all it was a super sweet time and very rewarding experience. We took a bit of time just nailing down a date for the Lan, and finally just decided to try our luck and get the Lan going not more than a month away from the vote on the date.
I really liked the Idea of setting up a detailed game schedule for the Lan, and did that part. Basically the Idea was to have most of the Lan controlled free play. Where most of the gamers would all play the same game. And it worked on Saturday great, even though the schedule got pushed around a bit. I have to say that almost everyone was in the same game playing on the same servers.
Blah blah blah.....Thanks goes to Javier, Gary and all the Intel guys, the Sponsors ‘War Machine, Intel, Foxcon, Thematake, and CoolIt’ it was a very sweet Lan and we got some money for charity as a result.

Before you make statments you should look at the FACTS the rest of the Gaming community has seen,
And to Force Run I agree with Deadlamb, If you expect to become a top shelf promoter or organizer it would do you some good to not exclude a large and vocal crowd of major lan attendees/ex-organizers......

The things that I enjoyed most from the lan:

-Team Anal
-Real Life "Apocalypse Now"
-Trackmania: [HOMO]Homo1
-Pizza & Soda for our table
-not being able to find Bella Bru even with GPS
-Terry's brother playing CS:S
-pirate and mafia.wmv
-being able to drive back home and return with the right hard drive within an hour

Getting a lan setup, people to play together, have the most amount of fun is not an easy thing to do/organize. Some things are just out of your control. Sure the lans you've held before (Flatout Lan 1&2) were fun there, but thats because its a house lan which tend to be more comprised of friends than strangers. There are expectations that come with Intel holding the lan. Like expecting the prizes to go to only the attendee's not the orginizors or intel employee's (like at Ascendancy Gaming Lan and all PDX hosted events). Also the website need to be better and host its own forum (its funny how RIGG is the core organizers of the event yet SLS has top billing in the "about us" page)

As far as the raffle went that was all Gary's decision.

As for the Website and Forums we are still waiting on Intel to design and put those up. The ALP site and use of the SLS forums is temporary until the Intel development team finally gets the site up. Which we hope will happen before the next lan.

In the about page Javier(RIGG) put that up he decided the order. FLG could of had something on that page if Gremlin had bothered to post it.
