stupid cd-rom drive thingy!

*push button to pop out cd tray
*place cd on said tray
*push tray back into drive
*expect to hear music from said Cd, but all i hear is sounds from my cd-rom drive thingy that sound like it's chewing up the CD!!!

The best i can relate the sound to is a VCR rewinding a tape. it was playing cd's fine until I put in a scratched up jack off Jill CD. it's like the scratched Cd ruined my drive! I put in a Blood Brothers cd that is in perfect condition, and it won't play.

any ideas on what's wrong with it?

great, now it won't accept any cd, including games, like my brand new Myst game. .this.day.sucks.

But, in reality, if the CD laser was having an excruciating time trying to track on the CD, it is entirely possible it got out of whack. If you have a can of compressed air, open the CD, spray air all over inside it... then shutdown. Then, after booting again, attempt to read a generic store-bought data CD (such as Winders, any game, etc).

If you still are having issues... well, be glad that CD players are so cheap now! :)

oh lord i really am a lummix. i was spraying the air into the drive and the straw snapped off and shot into the drive. well if it wasn't dea before it probably is now. jesus i should come with color-by-number instructions. :ROFL:

well evidently Jack Off Jill killed my cd-rom drive. the good thing is, however, I now get a DVD-drive instead. yay me!
