YAY! I'm going to see it tonight. Since this is one of my favorite books, I hope it doesn't suck. I'll post what I think of it when I get back.
grr... I'm still very angry that Paul Walker plays Chris. However, i do have to respect him for wanting to be in the movie and audtioning for it.

The trailer alone says "SUCK".

Wow, you really are a sucker for punishment if you're heading out to see this and hoping it won't suck.

erm, no actually I'm not a "sucker for punishment." I'm someone who read a fiction book with some basis in European history, which takes a theroy I'm highly interested in, the theory of Quantum Physics and parellel universes, and makes a very entertaining story out of it. of course I'm going to hope the movie doesn't suck because it's a film version of a book I love.
However, being both a film student and a book lover, I'm well aware movies never live up to the book, because I've read most of the books that are made into movies. But considering this book is one of my favorites, I am allowed to have hope.
It didn't suck too much. It was.. entertaining. But more of a "rent it from Netflix and burn it" sorta way. Reminded me of a USA movie. With a bigger budget it could have been spectacular, but unfortunately, it's a Paramount flick. I highly suggest reading the book. it made me want to read it again, for at least the 10th time.
However I still don't get one thing, and Anasazi I need your help here: wasn't Stern's first name "David" or "Daniel?" Because in the movie they call him Josh Stern. Why the hell would they change his first name?! It has been a few moths since I read the book so maybe I'm remembering it wrong.

anyway, my problem with the film is that it would lead the layman to argue that there's no way to time travel because it creates paradox. now that is true, but the huge chunk of the book they cut out is the explanation of how it's possible, through Quantum Foam. The movie leads the audience to believe that the characters tapped into a worm hole that lead to the past. However, the book explains that what they tapped into was a parellel universe. i could go into detail on parellel universes and quantum physics but i'm sure few people here would care, with the exception of Anasazi. :)
Oh but it was funny as hell seeing Ethan Embry play Stern. His reaction to the fact that the characters were going to have their molecular structure broken down was he-fucking-larious, and exactly how I pictured Stern reacting. Something tells me Embry read the book.

Eh, it was ok. I was overall pretty dissapointed. I'd say acting = ok, writing = bad, directing = suck. It really felt jumbled, there was just a lack of coherence throughout the whole thing. You'd have like 2 lines of canned dialogue and then suddenly oh yeah there's these guys chasing us again. If it had only followed the book closer...the book actually made it feel like they really went back to the 14th century, whereas the movie made it seem like they got sent to the set of a medieval hollywood B movie.

Lies!! I'm sure you have a Paul Walker poster up near your cpu or something.. Ya know he can drive his car backwards on the freeway being he is... the one.. At least that is what poncho told me.
ah timetravel..
the stalker mind just boggles at the thought of the level of life screw over one could do to another person. I mean you could got back in time, kill off her fav cat and then ziplock bag the thing, bring it back and mail her the head in present day....
that's a much better mind screw over then just nailing it to the door.

doesn't this involve parallel universes that can effect our own universe somehow, which is stupid and also retarded?

egh, I'm not getting into Quantum mathmatics on a web forum, that's retarded. These are theories Torman, theories I'd expect you or TermDec have heard of if you really are as mathmatically adept as you claim.

It seems as though there are enough people on these boards that are science literate enough to actually have a conversation about something like advanced physics or Einstein's Theories of relativity. The problem would be with Ego and Attitude, not intellect...

No, the problem is that Hollywood takes interesting scientific theories and wipes them with copious amounts of fecal matter, thus making the whole concept appear "stupid and also retarded" to average joe. I don't have any beef with the concepts, it's the way they are presented. Now I don't expect everyone to infer that from my previous posts, but I figured that some well-planted sarcasm could at least tip them off.

 actually I completely agree with this. except, again, if you don't kow someone, it's really hard to read sarcasm on the internet.

The book was awesome, it was so good I couldn't help but to read it in one day.
I never saw the movie because everyone was hating on it so much. I'll probably catch the dvd.
