If you, a loved one, friend, or some guy you see on the train every day has or is thinking of buying an Apple iPod, consider this.....

The battery is not replaceable.

Now, you might say, "But is is rechargable, so who cares, right?"

Well, even rechargable batteries die. And in the case of the iPod you would have to send it back to Apple to be refurbished, which, just in case you were interested, costs $255 (the same as a new iPod).

Two bothers apparently found this out after they had an iPod that died at the ripe old age of 18months. Here is what they think about it.

Hahaha, buy a Walkman. Better yet, buy a non-Apple mp3 player for hundreds of dollars less and be the better for it.

That was pretty funny.

What a fucked up thing to sell.

I love my iPod. If the battery does go bad there are ways other than replacing the battery or buying a new one to get it taken care of... mu ha ha ha ha...

I like my Archos Jukebox. Sure, it is older -- I bought it a couple of years ago (waaaay before Apple even dreamed of a player). 20 GB drive is OK with me, and it takes 4 AA rechargeable batteries.

So, I use 2000mAh which gives me about 11+ hours, and carry spare 1900mAh (and, my camera and portable speakers all also use AA's, so I have a ton of them between 1600mAh and 2000).

There is if you *allegedly* pull the battery from a new unit, and replace it with one from a a dead one...:chair: :willie:

Well, there are 3rd party sites that offer new batteries for the first gen iPod. And, since that movie came out, Apple now offers out of warranty iPod battery replacement for about 99 bucks on their site. The downside (?) is that they swap out a refurb unit, not just replace the battery in your iPod.
