There was a lot of blah blah blah in that article but I'm curious about the resolution and how they go about having the picture from various low-res sources not look like shit.

they don't...
it's a 1920x1080i set and I'm sure every single demo etc is all pure 1080i stuff and they just fig who ever has the coin for it is not watching re-runs of the Rockford files off analog cable. Sort of like how chevy never really worries about how many 2x4's a z06 can carry.
I think right now, if you have a 16x9 set you pretty much just have to stick to watching network prime time in HD or DVD's

They do make sure that it's able to fit a golf bag almost perfectly, it has to be intentional. The C5 was able to fit 2 of them in there, but I guess that's what happens when you have to trim off a few inches.

"Secaucus, N.J. — Panasonic formally announced that it will begin selling in December the 103W-inch 1,080p plasma TV, which made its debut at International CES, at a $69,999.95 suggested retail price.
The TH-103PZ600U, which is being billed as “the world’s largest plasma display,” will be produced in limited quantities on a build-to-order basis through select high-end A/V specialty dealers, but will come with a three-year in-home limited warranty, which Panasonic said is “unprecedented in the industry.”
