Digital out from PC to Receiver

OK, Here is the situation. I have a SFF pc that I keep in my entertainment center to play MP3s. It is currently hooked up to my Denon receiver with the analog output of the SBLive going to an audio input on the Denon. This has been fine for me for the past 2 years, but now there is a hum going on that is starting to drive me nuts. So tonight I work up the motivation to switch over to the digital inputs which IMHO should work because the SBLive has a PCM digital output and then the Denon has a coax PCM input. So I get it all hooked up and I only get sound out of the right damn speaker. Doesn't matter if I have it in Dolby surround mode or stereo mode. The only sound comes out of the right speaker.
Does anyone know what may be causing this? Let me know if I left out any important details.

It appears that there may be a voltage problem with the way that I have it set up now (coax) and I really don't want to blow out a two year old, $800 recevier. So, it would probably be best to go with the optical interface. If I read that link you sent correctly, it looks like I can get a optical card for my Live! card. I looked at Newegg for that add-on card but I don't see it - can you point me to a retailer that carries that card per chance?

There actually a bit hard to find. I think I still have mine in a box, if ya want it I can let ya have it for say $15.00.
